Hello, I built myself a confetti cannon from Deke Rivers' plans http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......6&14 and it works great. What I want to do now is build maybe three more and be able to control them remotely. Does anyone know of any good ways to do this? Obviously I would prefer it to be RF and not infrared, and I would also like to find a way to keep the cost down as best as possible.

I looked at Radio Shack and found a unit that I think will work, but if anyone knows that it will not work then please let me know. What it is is a unit that you plug into the wall, and then you plug a lamp into the unit. You then buy a control box that controls the unit. In this way, you could get four of these units and plug four lamps into different outlets around the house, and then turn them on and off from the box (why anyone would want to be able to do this is beyond me, but anyhow). The only problem is that each unit costs $20, and the box costs $20, so it would cost $100 to be able to fire all four confetti cannons off remotely. Also, I'm not positive that these units would work.

Any thoughts? Thanks!

The Radio Shack Radio Control comes in only 3 channels, labled A, B, and C. C is difficult to get and usually has to be ordered. However, by combining the radio control switches creatively, you can get a few more combinations.

For example, if button A controlled cannon A1 directly, but also served to turn on power to cannon B leading to B1 and C leading to C1, then pressing A would pop off A1, but not B1 and C1, which only have the power turned on. Turn off A.

Now you have a second trio in which button B sets off B cannon directly, but only turns on power to A leading to A2 and C leading to C2. And so on. You'd have to keep track of what you are doing and which controls set off which cannons, but if you can master a Si Stebben's deck, this should be a snap.

Try Tech America (www.techam.com) or search Velleman electronic kits. I think they both made kits you can build to trigger remote relays and controls

How about using "The Clapper". You wouldn't need to use a remote control - just clap when you want the cannons to go off..... errr.... maybe not such a great idea (unless the rest of the show was not very entertaining).

I couldn't resist......

I have actually thought about using the clapper as a sort of running gag for my community / kids shows. Been thinking about having an electrical item keep coming on when the kids clap. Maybe an applause sign.... the adults should appreciate the irony.
