Hi everything,
Recently, I just came accross remote viewing. I am rather new to it, and find it very interesting. And quite related to mentalism, ESP and the type. I was wondering if anything know sources about Remote Viewing, and if anyone has incorporated it into their acts. Thanks |

The thing about remote viewing is that it claims to be a sort of mentalism....without the tricks.
I've never seen evidence that it actually works. Would anyone like to point me to some? |

Here's a pretty balanced article with sources. For those unfamiliar with this topic, here's a brief quote from Wikipedia:
Quote:
Remote viewing (RV) is a procedure developed by parapsychologists at the Stanford Research Institute to allegedly perform clairvoyance under controlled conditions. Somewhat similar to astral projection, the phenomenon involves a belief in the projection of consciousness to remote locations, and is considered a pseudoscience by mainstream scientists. I've had some success remotely controlling my TV. |

Hi
Yes, I find it very fascinating. I'm into Paranormal, and Unexplained stuff. Which is how I got into mentalism. I even see some DVDs for sale that 'claim' to teach you the methods. I am really skeptical about these, anyone might have tried these? Although it might not be straight forward mentalism, but it is related in some way. The outcome of the process is in way similar. http://www.toolsforwellness.com/83017.html http://www.learnrv.com/ If anyone might have a chance to have seen these, a short review would be really appreciated. Hi Phil,
I also got interested in RV time ago and aside other sources I found Bob Cassidys' wonderful books 'Extremely remote' and his Removiewing Tester. Based on this I build my own RV Testing book and perform it sometimes and it really hits. Check it out. Greetings Thomas |

Phil,
Bob Cassidy's works are available directly from his site, http://www.mastermindreader.com. You'll need to apply for a password to get to the "mentalists only" page. But note that the books Thomas mentioned are mentalists' tools. That is, they use deception and subterfuge, and don't claim to teach you the "real thing."
Every problem contains the seeds of its own solution. Unfortunately every problem also contains the seeds of an infinite number of non-solutions, so that first part really isn't super helpful.

Phil,
You alread got good advices here. Especially James advice doing RV with impression device is great. ONce again regarding the RV books from Cassidy I mentioned. I don't know if the books still are available but try to check out http://www.mastermindreader.com that's Cassidy's site. There is also a routine in Cassidys' 'Complete principia of menta' with postcards. But the RV testing routine I mentioned in the previous post is great. There are several effects possible but the main effect is: YOu explain about scientific RV experiments and hand one of two spectators a scientific looking RV testing book. THen nothing is spoken and one spectator shows a target number just by pointing at it to the other. YOu can stand feet away. Then the other spectator goes to the page which consists the chosen target number. Now he points to a target and the other has to imagine the target due to the description. Now you immediately describe the chosen target in detail That was just a brief description of what happens. Really quite direct and impossible looking. I also use his idea from the book 'extremely remote' where you use just an ordinary time-planer (organizer) in which many targets are written and so you can perform RV right anywhere. I really love it. Greetings Thomas |

Phil,
I'm intrigued by this aspect applied to the world of magic. I'm not sure if you're asking for information on the stage/performable aspects of RV'ing or what some take to be the real deal. The former has pretty much been covered in previous posts. If you would like to jump into the later try http://www.farsight.org/ . Here you will find quite a bit of information including free audio downloads that teach RV. The downloads are actually pretty intense. Enjoy, Stephy |

Thanks for all the great info!
I really appreciate it. I am interesting in both the 'mentalism' and 'real' type of RV. I'm sure understanding the 'real' one and believing in it, will enchance my performance on the 'mentalism'. Once again, thank you for the information. I will view it again and again Phil |

There actually was a pretty good Columbo TV episode in the 70s that dealt with remote viewing experiments. Still comes up on reruns once in awhile.

I really love Columbo and not recently in Austrian TV they repeated this episode. Always love to see it again. Its kind of mental lecture when COlumbo also explains how he did it ;-))

Here's an idea...remote viewing as a presentation for a design duplication...

For....... REAL????
Creating a theatrical presentation of Remote Viewing at show time is one thing but making it happen in the real world is ... um.... bogus guys. Sorry to be such a party pooper. With an IMPRESSIONABLE MIND BOARD for example you can ENTERTAIN audiences by apparently demonstrating the idea. That's the routine which comes with it. But you won't actually be able to ... do it. ...And coins don't really appear at finger tips and bunnies don't dematerialize to another dimension and as far as I know women really haven't been sawed in half and put back together. ...And Peter Falk wasn't really a cleverly dumb private detective. (Though he did have a glass eye). Now fairies. I DO believe in fairies. I do. I do. ;>) Astonished, James

It is a matter of how we speak about reality, I guess.
