I was wondering if someone could explain the "effect" of these two routines. I am not asking for the gimmick, just the effect. I have heard a lot about these two tricks...would you guys prefer one over the other? Are they both do-able without a table?..if anyone knows of a link that shows either or both please let em know.

3-fly is a fingertip coin across routine in which 3 coins are first held at the fingertips of one hand, then one by one they "fly" to the other hand, at the fingertips again.
This is a very visual coin routine and I love it very much, I'm sure that many others also feel it that way. Try do a search using this name in this forum, you'll get more information. Raven is the name of a gimmick. One application of it is to make a coin vanish completely which is placed on a spectator's hand. Again a visual trick and it's usually performed as street magic. I personally prefer 3Fly. And Both are do able without a table.
It only takes a minute to learn how it is done, but takes a lifetime to learn how to do it.
You've got a coin? |

They are different things, you can't compare them like that.
Raven is a very misunderstood gimmick, in my opinion, it's poetential rarely reached, certainly not by me. While versatile in itself, it doesn't fit in as much with what coin men usually do, so most don't use it. I guess, according to the "use what works" ideology, that's a silly notion, but I do think many people don't use it simply because it's not the same kind of thing. Either way I don't know where my 3 Fly video went, but the easiest one to have a look on would be here: http://www.denisbehr.de go to coins, then VCA. It's a straight foward routine. For Raven, check out raven demos all over the internet. Chuck Leech has some nice ideas with them.
Neophyte.

It might be a good idea to suggest that you discuss the 3-Fly with Jonathan Townsend first.
The Raven as stated before can be an awesome tool.

Raven can be an awesome tool, right before subterfuge emerged.
while the "raven" has been dominating the "market" for quite some times, a new tool is out, "subterfuge", not only it would vanish coins off someone's hand, but it is also a PK tool, palming helper, coin "hold out" with endless uses! I personally am not using the raven anymore, cuz with SMS (subterfuge magic system) I can do whatever the raven can do (+ the M5) SLEEVELESS and HALF NAKED! if you really want something good, get the subterfuge (i own both of them!)
Double posters should be shot!
