well Cyril's act did trigger some ideas (i frankly NEVER thought of using something like this!) shadows moving stuff... endless possiblities, and I "think" a good routine of IT/M... what do you think guys?

Wonderful video. I had thought about
having shadows affect things of substance in the past, though I had never put together a practical routine. Oddly, I had never considered using the concept for close up. The simple routine that Cyril does on the video is, in my opinion, a brilliant piece of theatre. Thanks for the link pkg. I really enjoyed it. Dave |

My pleasure! I would sit all day long, playing with shadows against the wall, and never in my whole life thought about that! it simply blew me away! if he's coming up with the ideas or whoever is behind him and his ideas is plain genius!

Do you mean making a shadow with no obvious light source or maybe with a light source but nothing intervening to cast a shadow? The source of the shadow might be concealed in the light source, but I can envision several problems with this (getting a sharply defined shadow, for example). Animating such a shadow would add even more difficulties, but considering the great minds here, anything is possible.

Hey PKG, I have been working with a Photographer and vary types of lighting, I think you meant exposing the IT when the shadow moves object, I have yet to find a problem with exposure because the hands seem to be always able to cover any reflection or light particuls the IT may pick up. If I'm wrong in my assumption let me know PKG.

Bill got what I meant...it would require the help of an "assistant" which I really don't like ( I know the possiblities of having an "assistant" but it's not my type of work) would stick to my own shadows with a nice story to go along with it...GEDE WHERE ARE YOU!?!

Do you know David Harkeys effect, where he uses sunglasses? He interact with the shadow and the object that causes the shadow starts to move.
He moves the arm of the glasses of the shadow(!), the sunglass casts over the table and the arm of the real sunglasses start to move. Great easy routine and different. Ravi

When David Harkey was in Germany, I translated his lecture notes and this was one of the effects in it.
I am not at home right now but I will check where to find it when I get home.Okay? Ravi

The grandaddy of all is Teller's Shadows. He has done it every P & T live show since they paired up. That means he has been doing it for more than thirty years. I sent him the link and he really liked what the guy was doing.

That bit is fantastic! It really plays larger than life on camera and I bet in person it is downright scary. Conjures up all sorts of stories...wraiths, vampire shadows...
Great stuff, it was so simple, but beautiful.

I don't know if this would be any good or not but...if you were not in a position to make a shadow...you could draw a picture of , for example, a pen in a cup. Then, as you flick the pen in the picture, the real pen clatters in response. Maybe this could lead into the idea of drawing a hand on a paper and when you touch a part of the drawn hand, the participant can feel the touch at the same location on their own hand. It just seems that if played right, an effect like everyone here is talking about would naturally lead into a psychokenetic touches kind of thing. But, I am guessing it could be done very directly...just using suggestion.
