Hi there, I think this topic is posted in the correct area, if not could a mod relocate it. Thank you.

Right, I was searching through some of my books and out fell a piece of paper entitled, 'The Trap Mystery'. The basic effect is:- You show how deadly a two jawed trap is by dropping some fruit onto the trap and watch it become squashed. You then reset the trap and plunge your own hand onto the mechanism releasing the jaws. Amazingly your hand/ arm is unhurt.

By the way, the trap is ungimmicked.

What I'd like to know is, has anyone heard of this effect before? and even better has anyone tried it!!!

Thanks

Harry
P.s There was no author of this effect on the paper.

This is a great item.(Daring Spring Trap)I bought mine many years ago from Abbotts. Many years ago when I was a magic bartender, occasionally a newcomer would come in who would want to challenge the best pool player in the place(Me).I would agree with one condition:the loser would have to put their hand in the trap. Before the game I would demonstrate that the trap was real by triggering it with a pencil..which was snapped and sent flying. All the regulars were aware of the gag but would play along. After the sucker lost it was hilarious watching him trying to get up the courage to fufill the bet. After letting him sweat for a while,I would usually let him off the hook by placing my own hand in the trap..much to everyones delight.

Hi Rich, Do you have a photo of the correct trap to use? My instructions say: Victor or Oneida.

Thanks

Don't forget to try first with heavy gloves...
Then with your bare hands.

Also, make sure you take a "measurement" of your hand in the trap closed so you avoid the trap hitting your knuckles. The first time I did it, I must have started to pull my hand out as it was closing and the trap hit me square on the knuckle. The thing swelled up like a frightened puffer and the rest of my show was very painful. Now I know how hard I have to shove my hand in there so that it avoids my knuckle. I do love performing it though. I actually do a pulse stop routine together with it. The premise is the whole mind over body thing to be impervious to pain. It's one of my most requested pieces.

It does sound a great effect, one of which I'm going to try. I will keep looking on Ebay for the trap, as I already have the Know how.

Thanks for the replies. Harry
