A Casio Keyboard Stand. Or any electric piano/keyboard stand. Buy them at Wal/K-mart, Radio Shack, or any music store. Then make your own table for the top. It's colapsible, portable, etc. Even musicians use them when touring.
It's never to late to have a happy childhold!

Yes, that's a good idea.
Many use this technique already. You're on the right track. Here's how that famous street busker KOZMO has his setup. http://www.theambitiouscard.com/fotos/servante/

THANKS FRANK... this gets me to thinking... a great street act setup would be to use...
AN IRONING BOARD... Wow... you could use a real iron for a final load. I used to use silk Hawaiian Shirts as silks... lots of gags with one... show both sides, stick arm thrugh sleeve and it comes out with a production, revers and it vanishes... You would carry stuff in a "laundry bag"... the ironing board would make a perfect top surface. Comments?????

Been there, done that... Great idea, but the board is huge and a pain to transport via public transport...
My first board was actually an antique wooden laundering board (most stable surface I ever worked on), rolled up socks and a final load of an antique iron (non-electric). Good reactions, fun show, but more suited to a theatrical venue. Also used to carry a washboard for building the pitch. Thought about dropping the table and using the washboard as the table surface, but it was too irregular (although with work could have smoothed out the back side. Lots of fun ideas with this type of act though... Washtub for podium, eventual duck production, thumper for stirring rod, Soft Soap routine, Dirty hand gag, and bubbles, bubbles, bubbles... Laundry basket hamper for snake routine... Mr. & Mrs. Green, Chinese Washing Machine... Ahh, those were the days... Feel free to pick it up guys, I'm not doing it anymore (although now I'm thinking about hauling the stuff out of storage...) ajp |

Maybe you could even put your hair up in curlers and wear a housecoat...

I like the Hawaiian shirt idea. You could produce the stuff that's on the shirt from the shirt. Ukelele, Flowers, Pineapple, Hula Girl, etc. It would be real cool If you could then show that the pictures have vanished from the shirt.

My base is an antique ironing board base, it folds to a 5X32x1 package. Not as stable as a keyboard stand. I havn't put it to a real world test yet.

I just finished one of these, and will be using a keyboard stand, because it allows for varying heights. The table top can also sit on a regular table. Am going to add a huge magnet under table, and slots to steal cards and coins from. This one is made of walnut and made like a casino blackjack table in that the border part can be removed quickly to replace the felt. Next version will clean up the screws in the rear of the table. I will add a servant, but don't want it to be noticable. Probably conceal it on the leading edge of a small drawer, allowing it to be concealed under table when not in use. Smooth edge on rear of table will allow.....[you know what]
Drawback I see right now is the weight. It is made of solid walnut, carefully grain matched, 1 1/2 in thick at the sides. But it is incredibly sturdy Click for pictures of prototype http://www.dancingbearakitas.com/auction......able.htm Comments appreciated. |

Very nice table top, definitely figure out some way to get straps for transportation on it though. I had a really nice table top with drawers and the whole 9 yards once, but had to eventually leave at home because I couldn't carry it and all of my stuff at once.

My straps are on the stand, not the top. With the help of a couple of brackets on the lower legs, the table top rests vertically against the collapsed legs and the whole thing is held together by luggage straps (the same ones I use on the top of the tray stand.) An old laptop case shoulder strap clipped to some eye screws and I'm good to go. (Where yet I don't know, but I'm ready!
![]() This idea was used by both Gazzo and Cellini years ago. Gazzo describes it in his School for Scoundrels Cups and Balls video, and Cellini wrote about his in his book "The Royal Touch." Judging by the weight of his top, he might consider storing it inside the lid of a wheeled trunk. (also a Cellini idea)
