Are any of you familiar with some really good cardmen from Toronto? Who are Toronto's top Cardicians?

Where, or what, on earth is "Toronto"?
Sorry, had to be said. Admit it, you were all thinking the same thing. Actually, where do Toronto cardmen hang out, besides the Browser's Den magic shop, these days? |

I've heard many great things about Jason Tang.
Give me a couple years and I'll be up there Take care, Bobby.

Hey guys.
Does anyone know any good magicians at all from Toronto besides Jay Sankey? Of course I could name some but I'm interested to know others' thoughts on this. Rod |

Toronto-based magicians:
Ross Bertram - deceased now but definitely one of the best. Tom Baxter - He actually lives in Oakville, but he's an incredible performer, very knowledgeable about magic and it's history. Jay Sankey - Everyone knows this guy. Jason Tang - Not extremely well-known, but holy #$%^ this guy is nuts! Definitely one of the best. Kelvin Kwong - Him and his buddy Dustin are making a video dealing with pure flourishes. Inspired by the Brian Tudor vids, these guys are wicked!! Myself - Sorry, had to do it. There are some other guys, but I don't want to make this post too long. Jeff P.S. Almost forgot David Ben, definitely a topnotch cardman (student of Bertram). Also, Ariel Frailich is very good, his book Card Stories is excellent.

David Acer, Gary Kurtz, J Sankey and the unforgettable Ross Bertram. I think it's enough, isn't it?

Hehe, thanks Certainly...
Actually, the Toronto scene isn't what it used to be... Also forgot to mention Wij, while he doesn't perform strictly cards, he can do some very cool stuff... There's also a few others who I'm not sure whether or not they want to be mentioned, but there are guys out there, it's just that the scene's not as big as it is in say NY or LA, of course, the population is much smaller here (4 million or so I believe...) I used to go to Browser's all the time on Saturdays, and I used to meet up with a bunch of people, but I haven't done that in a long time, I think people still meet, but not as often... there's no place to my knowledge where all the top card guys meet up... Ariel used to meet-up with a lot of the older guys on saturdays, but that doesn't happen anymore. Maybe we should try and throw something together?? Toronto definitely needs a group to form, cuz we got some talented card guys... Enough of me ranting...

I also think we should get something together in Toronto. Keep in mind starting April 22, 2003 at the Browsers Den they are starting magic lessons every Tuesday and every Thursday for 10 weeks at a cost of 250.00. The course focuses on double lifts, palming, vanishes, shuffling, proper technique, etc.

Yeah, I heard about the classes. Don't know if I'll be able to do them, but they SOUND great, anyway!
(And you forgot to mention that you must be at least 16 years of age) |

Hey Guys,
I am gonna give you the names of a few not-well-known card men in Toronto. I only know them from magic camp, and fortunately, some of them have become some great friends and people I really admire. Heres the list: Alan Grose: His wife, Lynda, along with Magic Mike are basically in-charge of running magic camp. Alan is an awesome card magician, but he is absolutely incredible with coin magic, he is a really talented man. He is also really nice (so is his wife and son) they are some great friends, and they are kind enough let me stay with them at their house each summer before and after magic camp. Yipee! Dustin Crispo: he is a good friend from magic camp, and we are always hanging out all day and night at the Columbus Magi-Fest each year. He is about 18 I think (I am 16) and he is unbelievable with flourishes. Some of the stuff he does is mindblowing. He has a flourish called the Arachnid, its super fast, super clean, super long, uses brand new hand positions that most people haven't seen or heard of. He is also very creative with card routines. Kelvin Kwong and he are working on a flourish video, look for it when it comes out! Kelvin Kwong: 1 year younger than Dustin, they are both great friends, and I am honored to say that Kelvin is a good friend of mine as well (they live in Canada, and I am in Ohio so it's tough to keep a great relationship going, but we hang out a lot at magic camp, and that makes up for the rest of the year!) One of his most notable flourishes is one he calls the 'Taz' like a tazmanian devil. He uses it for a insane double lift, and also uses it for a cut. Imagine a packet of cards flying of the deck so fast you can barely see it, then hitting the side of your arm and bouncing in the other hand. Jason Tang: He is a really nice guy, and talented. I see him at magic camp, and each time we hang out he blows me away with something. His magic is very graceful. He's known known for his unbelievable false deals (he can pseudo deal 5ths and 4ths, etc...really wild stuff) and is also recognized for his work on the pass. Those who have seen it proabably agree that it is the best pass they have ever seen. It is SOOOO good. WOW! Well, this is getting really long, so I better just mention a few names of some great guys, good friends, and amazing card/coin magicians: Serge (dont know how to spell his last name...so I wont try!), Morgan Bondett, Brandon Fergusen, oh boy...there are so many to name, I better not even try! Go to http://www.sorcerers-safari.com There are plenty of pictures of some great magicians there. Most of them are incredibly nice, yet incredibly talented. Then of course, Jay Sankey and Gary Kurtz and Greg Frewin and many others are from Canada. There are some really great magicians there, look for them if you ever visit Canada, it is a wonderful place, nice climate, etc. I just thought I would mention some friends who are really talented magicians in Canada. If you ever have a chance to meet them, take that opportunity, you will not be dissapointed, you will however be very impressed and amazed! Sincerely, Doug-The Magic Sponge |

Okay guys, I've PM'ed most of you...
For those that didn't get a PM, if you want to meet up, PM me with your availability and I'll try and put something together for us... This will be my last post on this, as I'm sure people don't want to keep hearing about Toronto... So if you need to contact me, PM me or e-mail me at: jakch.hinchliffe@rogers.com Thanks, Jeff Hinchliffe
