Hi,
Has anyone purchased/used Santa's Suit? This is the effect involving silk handkerchiefs with Santa pictures - sort of a mismade Santa outfit. What is your impression? Bruce Hetzler |

I used this a couple of years ago.
Kids enjoyed it. |

It is a great effect and story for platform or small party magic. Too much distance kills it. But that is really a function of the detailed graphics. Tis' the season!

For me personally, I wouldn't use any drawings, photos, silks, etc with people in their underwear in my children's and family shows, even if it is meant as a comedy portrayal.
But then again, I won't use Baffling Bra or Houdini Outstripped in my show, either. I have a no-underwear policy. (I cringed the other day at one performer's website -- he had a page that advertised his gospel magic, and on another page, a photo of him doing Baffling Bra to a spectator in a bar! Talk about an inconsistent message on the same website!) I err on the side of conservatism, and still find I work lots. I just try and please as many potential customers as possible, because I am always looking for the next show, whether it be repeat business or spin-offs or referrals. Keep in mind that not every performer agrees with my stance on this subject, but that's ok. I hold not malice towards them. But I do listen when prospects and customers tell me why they are hiring me, and not the performer they had last year! - Donald P.S. I have lots of Christmas Magic (about 3-4 different shows worth), and own most of the tricks on the market that are themed. But this is one I intentionally avoided.

I tend to agree with you, Donald, but Spongebob currently rules the economy, and he's always droppin' trow! He oughta be called "Spongebob Nopants." So, perhaps a *little* underwear is becoming more acceptable to the G.P. (general public.) Heck, over 10 years ago Disney started putting burps and farts in their children's cartoons (see "The Lion King"), and that's from a company who's founder made employees shave their mustaches!

Oops! This is Bob speaking...
In the wrong environment, I would agree. However, having done time in the rodeo arena, rodeo clowns run out of their baggy jeans frequently. (We have even used them to blindfold the bull so the cowboy could get away.) I don't even think the bull is offended. I never felt that it was too suggestive! It ranks right there with the young guys sagging their pants. To an adult it looks like a child with a "loaded" diaper. It's just not a mark of mature sexuality. What am I missing? It seems reasonable to me Santa would wear underwear. Bob Sanders Magic By Sander |

I know were veering off topic but...
Sometimes when I make my Ketchup bottle vanish I claim it will re-appear in the empty tube sitting way over there on the table. (show tube empty...magic word...) Wallaa! Woops...out comes my underwear! I make it clear they are MINE as I am embarrassed at this misfortunate magical accident. I have to say it is one of the loudest and funniest moments of the show and I am just waiting for one disapproving message and I may scrap it. But so far it has been successful. I do agree with Donald in that the underwear or bras should not come from the volunteers, that would be rude. |

Okay, since I started this topic, I thought I would add something here. I did purchase the effect, and have used it several times so far, with good results. HOWEVER . . . I simply did not use the first silk (the underwear silk). That is, I simply used the other two Santa silks, much like a mismade flag or mismade pumpkin. I began by putting in the red and white silks to get a picture of Santa . . . but it came out wrong . . . with stripes . . . also no presents. So . . . you add some more colored silks to get the presents along with correcting the picture.
