Does anyone use their puppet to perform magic? I have used one of mine for limited card tricks since I can only use one hand. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Glenn - the answer is of course we do. A couple of question for you. What type of magic are you doing? Kid's shows? Age? What do you want to do with the puppet? I have a routine that plays very big with the kids. I use Polly the Parrot to predict a card and find it in an envelope that was chosen sometime earlier by a shy kid in the crowd. Always plays very well. Can be one of your best tricks. Good Luck - let me know if you want more details.

Thanks to both of you. Jerry, I have a soft type human looking puppet that I use for regular magic shows. I use it for older kids and adults. I do a couple of card tricks with it, but the use of only one hand sometimes interferes with doing other tricks. For this reason, I sometimes use a one handed change bag for production or vanish items. If you want to view the four puppets I have, my website is http://www.policemagic.com. Go to the puppets on patrol page. I also have a fifth puppet, but it is owned by my agency (McGruff). I would be interested in knowing your routine and the stiff rope routine as well. Thanks again. Glenn - Nice site - OK here is a brief discription. Make up two envelopes with a jumbo card in each. If you need to know how to make jumbo cards let me know. Mark one envelope with a Big number 1 and the other with a big number 2. Make sure the cards are different in every way - color - face etc. If you have to right it down that works Ok - just put the answers on a piece of paper and leave it on your working table. No one will ever know if you do it in code (1qh / 210d). Now choose a shy kid and have them come up and select an envelope - I always make it hard for them to take one - keep moving them around. Tell them to go sit on the envelope - and no matter how many times you ask to not let you look inside. Ask several times to see if they will let you. Now take a deck of cheap cards and force the card they choose to a new kid. I always choose one of the outgoing / loud kids for this part. Tell them Marvin will now choose their card out of a shoe box. I have the puppet in the box to start and tell them I have a special guest to help me with this trick. Ask them how many attempts Marvin will get. Settle on 3. Now make sure you have pulled their card out and dump all of the cards in the box and have Marvin start looking for the right card. During the process Marvin starts throwing cards all over the place. The kids love it. Have him choose a card and announce that this is it! The kids all yell NO. Ok second chance - same routine. NO they yell and finally Marvin throws all of the cards out except one and announces this is IT! NO the yell. You play this up for all it's worth. Show the box empty - Marvin has never failed before you tell them with a sad look. Something is wrong. Have Marvin whisper in your ear. Now call up the shy kid to bring up the envelope. Put your arm around them and have Marvin hang over their sholder and tell them to open the envelope. Tah Dah - have the kid tear open the envelope and show everybody the card. The kids all cry out - that is correct. You have Marvin take a big bow and put him back in the box for next time. It is all in the presentation. This should take a good 5 minutes to perform this trick. I make jumbo cards and have my logo and numbers on the front - I leave it with the shy kid to take home. Of course all of the kids ask to see it - helping the shy kid get attention. Second make sure all of the kids get some of the playing cards Marvin throws out to the crowd. Tell them everybody has to have one before anybody can have 2. Try it and see if it works for you. It is one of my favorites. Good Luck
