I came across and began carrying Theodore Roosevelt's quote in my wallet around 1968. I was competing in weightlifting at the time and before each contest I would be very nervous and doubtful about my ability to perform. Reading his words before a contest always inspired me to do my best.

TR has that effect on people. He is a favorite historical figure both to my wife and myself.
