I didn't know where to post this, so if someone knows a better place, feel free to move it. I came across this video today and thought I would share it here. It is interesting to see how different the styles of "then" and "now" are. Then: classy; Now: rough-hewn. (I'm thinking along the lines of what is presented on TV like Mark Wilson vs. Blaine and/or Angel). Anyway, here's the link...enjoy.

That is the one and only Richard Ross. His wife and a manufacturer of premiere (shhhhhhhhhh!) equipment are in a current run of 10 limited edition sets of the pocket watches for about $9K USD. The set has some variations as there is only one set such as that used by Ross.
Richard Ross passed away in 2001 but leaves us with a legacy that will live on forever. His style and technique will not be forgotten as it is often emulated by those in pursuit of a similar polished act. Read a little more on Richard Ross and his legacy here at the magic web channel site: http://www.magicwebchannel.com/hall_ross.htm A few Café members remember him here as well: http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......orum=134 A performer with great style and talent he will always be one of my grand favorites. |

It is Richard Ross but it is not from 60´s. This video is from 1973 or 1976. It was a part of Bill Bixbi`s
Wonderful World of Magic. |

"What's your drug?" she asked. "Hope" he said, "The most addicting one of all."

An advantage of becoming an "old guy" is that we get introduced by "and now for some classical magic...". We touch the remote on our sound system and start our act.
I can remember real orchestra pits! With real musicians! If the budget allows, I still have a live drummer. Working is so different when you can find and see the source of the music. It really was live entertainment. If you have never worked with a live orchestra, you've missed something. There is nothing like it. I suppose by the mid 80s it was essentially gone. In the 60s and 70s it was a given in a good show. Bob Sanders Magic By Sander |

Juliano, I think, with all due respect, he was very well known. I am sure he won FISM on two ocasions.
Best wishes, Dave

Ok Dave, maybe he is in magic fraternity , but make a search on the net and you 'll only find something like 3-4 links except the shops. I said comparing to his great level.Im sad to say that magicians like Crhris Angel and David Blaine with all this fame about their names, they are poor comparing to him.

Did you note how even the music was evocative of clocks?
The subtle changes in tempo and tune that supported the magic? Ross was about details, tiny details, but that made his magic very Magical! He was s-l-o-w and smooth, and oh-so-charming, and had astounding if so subtle mis-directions skills, It is a whole lesson in club/parlor magic to see him in his prime. It's not about the props, even if they can be had today, it's about the majesty and skill this talented magician brought out of his props. Magically, Walt |
