I saw Marc Salem approx. two years ago do a act in which 4 selected members of the audience each drew a picture. Marc then collected the pictures and asked the people to reply by only saying “no”. he proceeded to show them the pictures and asked them if they were responsible for the drawing – they would answer “NO” . Through this he matched members and their artwork.
I have been doing a similar effect but I am sure the method I use is far more complicated than Marks one. Can anybody tell me if anything as been written on this effect or if it has been published. Help is appreciated

Sounds similar to the Sneak Thief principle - whereby you can also duplicate the last drawing.
See Larry Becker's work on the topic. Si |

Hypn, I must ask as a professional mentalist, that you do one thing for me and others.
Once you learn this effect. 1. Change the presentation so that its original OK? |

Hi Scott,
The idea is not to copy the presentation, but to see if there is a easier achievable method to a routine I am already performing as a opener. Sadly I have only traced one lead from those listed in the replies

There was never anything original with it anyway, plenty of people, me included, have been doing the lie detector test using the Sneak Thief Principle. Certainly present it in your own style with your own patter (and not copy Salem word for word), but as far as the theme, use it if you like it.

Some Patrick guy had a version called Fabricated Truth in his book Mendacity...or something of the like. It is my understanding that in this version the cards always remain behind the performers back until the performer correctly identifies who the drawing belongs to. Only then does the performer touch the card to give it back to the proper person.
It's worth a look. Stuners Plus is worth a look. So are many of the other sources outlined above. -Patrick Redford |

Don't forget to scream "LIAR!!!!!" like Max Maven does in his routine with lie detecting - great for a shock/laugh...
"They are lean and athirst!!!!"

The routine is Marc's. It is a trademark set piece. The effect is not his but the subtleties of the routine combined with his legitimate background make this a do not steal piece. Many will do so anyway and find ways to justify it to themselves.

Marc is an incredibly believable performer - and does this routine particularly well! His presentation is a pleasure to watch, and very fast moving! Best, ML x |

Good enough that it was featured on the "60 Minutes" piece on Marc.

Sounds like a nice effect Hypn. If I were to do it I would use m****d cards for the particiant to draw upon. Dead easy. Would that work, or am I missing something? Hope that helps.
Kind regards, Ross |

Well as mentioned above just the old principle for psychometry-routines. Saw many performer doing similar routines. It doesn't matter if you use pictures or let put some things in envelopes.
James Biss has a nice routine called knickerbocker which is similar. So regarding to Hypn's original question. Basicly method is not important if effect is the same. Of course if you find an easier one than you should use this. So if you are into mentalism a bit such routiens shouldn't be a big problem anymore. Look out for psychometry like routines and you will find thousands of ideas of routines in Corinda or Anneman alone. Greetings Thomas |
