I was perusing my local Target, and came across Marshall Brodien's magic show. There's a trick in there that for some reason just fascinates and stumps me. From the pictures, it looks as if a wand is pushed throw a hole in the middle of a square cylinder, and then a block is dropped through and passes through the wand. Is this sold anywhere else, seperately, under a different name? I have no idea why this fascinates me so much.

I believe the actual effect many be the reverse of your description> i.e. the block is first "imprisoned" within the outer covering by pushing a wand through both the block and the outer covering, then "upon your command" the block will release itself from the wand and fall free.
In days gone by this trick was called the Phantom Block. It has been remade by many manufacturers (including Tenyo), probably using diferent names. Your instincts are sound--it is a very good trick! |

I think it is kinda cool. But The one I got was cheap cardboard. So it didn't last long. And the gimmick didn't work very well. So make sure if you get one, for it to be good quality.

I think I like it because I can't even THEORIZE how it could possibly work. Usually I can at least invent a possibility. I sometimes find this embarassing.

Actually I think Tenyo called it the phanto block, but they have discontinued making it. I believe it was accredited to the creation of Takuya Yoshizawa. It is also called Super phanto block. Some stores may still have it in stock.

I found one version at the magic warehouse called Chang's Dowry, Viking. I have a different version that I bought from ickle pickle, but I don't know the name of it. I saw the version I have on another website the other day, but I can't remember where. I'll try to find out what the name of my version is.

OK, I just found the version I have, it is called Cambell's Cube Off. I found it at http://www.maxello.com. I hope this is close to what you are looking for.

The original Phantom Block (l-o-n-g before Tenyo existed) was/is a close-up trick. The larger Vampire Block works on a different principle and is designed for a larger audience. The Viking effect mentioned above is a "hybrid" of the Vampire Block and is a strong close-up piece.
