Does anyone use the No Tear Kidz effect in your birthday party shows and if so what kind of reaction you get?
Thanks, Harv |

The No Tear gimmick is used for many other versions of magic not just the Birthday Party. I buy every one I can get at auctions just so I have extra.
I like it with Steve Taylor's Paper tear.

Hi Dennis,
I have the No Tear newspaper, but have never really used it. The No Tear Kidz seems like a better idea for kids birthday parties. Also, I checked out Steve Taylor's site and couldn't find any info on his paper tear routine. He does have a book(let) about making your kidshow biz go ballistic that is now out of print. Perhaps it was included there. |

Stevie: Thanks for the link. I have seen this done before, but I have not seen the kid show version of it. Nice idea and uses the same exact principle just by theming it towards the kid show crowd. It couldbe very funny if you have the letters and pronounce the leters wrong as the kids help you get them right.

Yeah, you show several seperate bits of paper are shown and a bigger bit of paper drops open with the small bits attached to the back! (which you can clearly see if you are not totaly blind. LOL

I have to admit I noticed that on the Kid version video demo reel. It was not as apparent in the newspaper version. I wasn't sure if it was just me or not, so I did not mention it. It did look like you could see the gimmick on the back and through the paper on the kid show version of the effect.
I still do the gene Anderson version asn I am a bit partial to it. Gene was kind enough to sit down and show me exactly how to make it and perform it and I just loved the effect. It takes a while and dedication to set it up, but I think my audiences are worth it. I would , however, like to see these newer versions performed live so I could really get a closer look at how they appear in performance. I do not like to judge anything until I can really see it for myself. Kyle

PB if you alter yours like the anderson paper tear you can show all sides of the paper for your 20/20 audiences. the farsighted kids I do it for never complain

It's hard to explain Harv, Regular sheet of newpaper is substiuted for the individual pieces, then in a regular sheet is the magnetic piece. You show and talk about articles you cut out then they are all back together.
In Steve taylor's Lecture Notes at KIDabra, he produced a newspaper with six routines printed within the newspaper. They are emotional stories and used as closers for your show. Very well done.

I used to do this until one time I pulled a little hard and tore the end off a corner.
If you do buy it you may want to think about reinforcing it with some tape on the back of it. Andrew |

I just purchased and did this 2 weeks ago for 25 8yr olds at a BD party. Before I could finish the trick, the kids were yelling "It spells Happy Birthday". I hope I have room in "The Drawer" for it.

Jack - just because they know what is coming does not mean they don't like it. How was the reaction afterwards?
Start tearing a newspaper and the kids KNOW you are going to restore it. Bring out some rings - they are gonna link. But the kids love it. Just me $0.02. |

Hi, But with the rings they cant understand how they link or unlink with the newspaper logic says it has to be a duplicate paper . the only way in my opinion to make it more than how did he swap the bits for the whole one is if you can some how prove the paper is not a duplicate IE the osterlind version |

But yet, Phillip, I have kids tell me all the time that I used glue or tape to restore it, or that I didn't "really" tear the paper. (When I perform Gene Anderson's tear).
Some might put it together (that there must be another paper involved), but some just guess at any method they can think of. It's all about how wrapped up in the magic moment they become. I've even had adults try to bribe me to tell them the secret. $25 wasn't enough a few years ago! I'm holding out for at least $100 nowadays. Hehehe! - Donald

Which gets some strange looks if the birthday child is not named Muffy . Anyway, I do the restoration as they yell, and have them give the birthday child a big hand. It's over too fast for them to suspect anything! |

I just picked one up. It could play well, and for the price if it hits the junk drawer, it's not a big loss.

Harv if it ends up in your junk drawer it will be a big loss played right this is a great bit and resets ez don't let big posters like P.B. throw you off. done with a good routine kids love this both the news paper and the kidz tear
The Anderson tear is a must for adult shows but fr kids the no tear is always ready to go. I do 2 sometimes 3 bdays on Sat and Sunday and the no tear newspaper makes every show Charles |
