Hello, I'm not sure if this has been addressed before, but here is the background for my thinking and the basic idea: I like the idea of the restricted-access forums, but I think it is too easy to get in. Basing access on a number of posts is probably the easiest way of deciding who should get in and who should not get in, but it is arbitrary and it does not account for quality. As an alternative, I'm wondering if the Café could have an experience rating ascribable to various members that is based on actual rating of their performance with an audience. I'm not talking about a ton of levels, just either you are in because you have shown a serious study of the art with performance skill, or you are out because you are not ready yet. I'm thinking of something similar to what I've heard people have to do to join the Magic Castle. To start things off, and make it easier on the Staff, perhaps certain very-well known pros could be grandfathered-in. Then, assuming I have the process correct for membership to the Magic Castle, the Café could also grant this "experienced" (for lack of a better word) rating to members upon submission of proof of membership at the Magic Castle. it doesn't have to be the Magic Castle, but it is the only one I know of with this type of entry. Those who do not have access to such an entry, could petition to audition with a magical essay. Once or twice a year, those selected for application could submit an electronic video of themselves performing a short routine or set of routines for an audience for evaluation. Clearly volunteers would be needed to screen these electronic videos. If you do well, you obtain the "experienced" rating and gain access to the restricted forums. This would limit the number of people who could get to the restricted forums from where it currently is, but would also have another advantage. Under this new system, when someone posts we could see not only the number of posts they have made, but also whether or not they have obtained the "experienced" rating. Depending on the standards set for this "experienced" rating (and I would want them high) I'm not sure I would be able to qualify. But even if I did not qualify, I would still be helped, because I would be able to better judge the advice I see on the boards. So many people seem so versed in technique, or aware of so many routines, and they sound authoritative until discussions on performing for real people. In this area, only real world experience helps, and I'd like to be able to spot the reliable sources from the others who might be talking a good talk. Any thoughts? Is this technically possible? Thanks for any consideration,
