Has there ever been a cocky magician who thinks he's better then you?? What effects did you or would you show him to really fool him? I'm not saying you should be cocky but just something to make him think "WOWZERS!!!!" lol...Awesome word, eh? "WOWZERS"

Thanks alot,
Mike

If I met somebody like that, I would most definately perform anything for him at all. It would seem that even if he were amazed, it would be wasted effort.

I do occasionally like a similar challenge with spectators, but I like to live dangerously sometimes.

I'm 13 and was at Legoland about a year ago. In the medieval section of the park there was a man performing magic (he was hired to work there). He came over and did the Insurance Policy, one of the most knucklebusting routines ever performed (yeah right). I told him I was a magician as well and he treated me as if I was an ignorant little child. By this time, I had been studying magic for about three years. I fooled him with RED HOT MAMA! He knew next to nothing about magic, do you know why? He screwed up the Insurance Policy at the next table.

Merry Christmas,
mackmania

P.S. I know it's not mentalism, but I thought it was appropriate to share in this thread.

Mackmania:Obviously you are a serious student of Magic, and I would bet that you are a serious student in general.Your post was well written with correct spelling etc.
I think the problem young performers run into is using the term 'magician'.I think 'Magical Entertainer'is more appropriate for ANYBODY(no matter age) who has not been performing long and who has not studied the Art in depth..Not just tricks..but History, theory, presentation etc. This is just MY opinion, and to this day, many times I refer to myself as a "Magical Entertainer",and that is after 30 years of performing(20 years full-time).
Now,think of the situation you mentioned. You see the guy performing..and introduce yourself as a fellow 'Magical Entertainer',he says nice to meet you..you show him your trick..blow him away..and he still stinks. Smile However, you come off as a classy young man who loves Magic.I wish you all the best! Merry Christmas to you too!

I steal his wallet using the Koenig Pickpocketing Technique taught in AOAA....Then I forget to return it. Why show him anything? Just let him stew in his own juices.

Generally, those who brag about their talents are compensating for their lack of ability.

Be polite, curteous, and let the nature of his performance speak the real truth.

To fool a magician? well it depends. The first thing you will look at is his magic skills (don't look yet at his performance), if you note he has studied 5-6 tricks and show them all over you can reverse him with some card skills. If you see he is a really skilled one and is not joking, do some mind reading (any of your delight) to the audience, I'd suggest to present yourself a bit shy and you'll see people will pay more attention to you (be shy 5 minutes and than adquire your presentation patter). I suggest mind-reading because people are more attached to it usually.
P.S as for card skills, I'd go for those routines, that take a bit much longer than any sort of Ambititous or Monte..look at some db routines.

If someone is so insecure as to need to dominate or tear you down socially, why waste much time on them? I wouldn't try to outdo them with magic, but outdo them with class and graciousness.

Then again, there was one time when a card magician was boring a lot of people (very pushy young guy) so I told him I thought his cards might be marked. Used a one ahead and cut the deck five times, predicting each card. (Kreskin wrote on it in "Fun way to Mind Expansion" and Walt Noon has a variation on it too).

I find with other magicians that the best thing to do is to get them to look closesly at the pack of cards you are holding and then spring them into their face, hopefully getting a paper cut or two to the eyeball in the process.

Fools 'em everytime!

Well if you're in the subject try to get "slice a-head" by Gambit.
Very impromptu, works hard on magicians.

All magicians / mentalists can be judged by the amount of their knowledge. Why even bother with someone who can't perform an insurance policy trick? When you come across someone who has taken the time to read and learn, I think you recongnise each others skills very quickly.

That is painting with a broad brush. I have met some of the best and most humble magicians in shops (all across the USA). If you go in trying to pick a fight I can see your point. If you go in trying to learn I think you can be amazed by some of these "cocky magicians".
