Eleazar Goodenough has just published his newest Wiz Kids Effect called "Every Century Silks." It is the first time I have seen the concept of someone signing a silk for identification. My heart almost stopped when I first saw him perform this at a Wiz Kid brain-storming session. In my day, a 36" silk was precious stuff and I would no more consider allowing a spectator to sign one with a magic marker than I would allowing someone to paint grafitti on my house. But times have changed and Eleazar gets his 36 inch signable silks from the 99 cent store in town.

Does anyone else know of a silk signing effect? I would be interested to know if I missed something in the past 20 years while I was sleeping.

Anyway, his new effect is "sort of" a 20th Century Silks, but I looked up every conceivable method in the Rice Encyclopedia and it appears that he has developed something quite new.

He has worked it out in two versions. The "Regular" version can be done with completely ungimmicked silks, but his "X-Treme" version is the one where not only does the spectator sign his silk, but at the end, his own handwritten message shows up along with hers!

Eight year olds can be so frustrating when they invent things you wish you had invented yourself years ago. However, Eleazar has allowed me to publish it as the first effect in The Wizards' Journal #8, so magic invention takes a new turn with a new generation.
