A while back, I was rummaging through a box of strange items at a local yard sale. This box had all kinds of things in it including a few magic tricks. Perhaps the previous owner was a bit of a trickster (it contained one of those rings that squirts water, which, of course, I promptly purchased).

One of the things I bought was a set of jumbo cards in an envelope. It looked like some sort of packet trick. Unfortunately, there were no directions for it so I really have no idea what the effect is.

So this is where you guys come in. I'm hoping that one of you learned lads or lasses can either name the trick, tell me who originated it, or perhaps point me in a direction to where I could find the handling of it.

Here is what the cards consist of;
2 normal 7/D's
1 A/C with a plain cardboard back
1 DF with A/C and 7/D on either side.

I've also thought that perhaps this is an incomplete set. This is quite possible. The backs are red, with two rabbits and a bunch of stars and lightning bolts. It looks like they may have come from a magic kit or something.

If anyone has any information on these cards and/or the effect, please let me know.

Thanks in advance!

Sounds like an old version of "Cards to Envelope" that came with a window envelope that matched the cardboard backing on the a/c. When you put the a/c in the envelope with the back facing forward, the envelope looked empty.

You then do a "monte" type of routine with the remainder of the cards - removing them from the envelope, leaving the gimmick behind. The specs try to guess which is the ace, but they all turn out to be 7's. (A DL is used to switch the cards).

The vanished ace is removed from the envelope by keeping the envelope back facing the audience and pulling out the card, carefully not showing its back.

Wow! You guys are good! Yes, I think that is exactly what I have here, and it appears to be incomplete. Well, at least that solves the mystery. Thanks to you both for the help!
