I am out searching for ideas to use in a 3D theme show for families and audiences of all ages.
My market is "IMAX" theatre. I understand there is a product available called 3D TV. What else could some of you reccommend I use in a 30 minute spot after each veiwing of one of their 3d movies in order to give the paying customers some more fun experience for their money? Also - Just a little side thought - one D stands for Dani what name would you use to fit the show? eg. "Danis distorted dimensions" thanks for the ideas and tips, Dani |

Jerry Andus's Mylar Miracle comes to mind. It's a trick where a 2D yellow spot on a sheet of Mylar becomes a 3D Ball. Should fit right in with your theme.
the old Squeeze-A-Way block also might offer up some presentational possibilities

I would also look into the work being done by Marco Tempest. Just for insipration. He often mixes 2 dimensional magic into a 3rd dimension reality and back again. Some of his ideas have really been amazing and a lot of fun. You might get some good ideas and food for thought by checking out his website.

No problem at all. The idea of magic happening in different dimensions seems really fun and certainly is a cool idea. Perhaps you can also use the premise of time and travel through time also. If so, then you could use a silk wonder box to amke a silk or sponge ball vanish and land back in your pocket(travel back in time) Or take a flat circle shape and change it into a 3-d sponge ball shape.
Kyle Posted: Dec 24, 2005 10:03am Oh. Another idea is to use the 2-d optical illusion disc. Bruce Kalver puts one out that can be used. This way your entire audience sees a 2 -d object but when they all look at your nose after 30-seconds, a 3-d effects works and it happens to everyone at the same moment in time. A very strong effect. Kyle, I cant thank you enough.
You are always here for me whenever I need you. you are a true magicians friend. I checked out Marco Tempests site and, as you said, it is very inspirational for me at this time. I would go as far as contemplating meeting with him and his managerproducer if it should come down to that. Although, for the moment I will look into getting some smaller scalepriced props and routines together for a fitting show in 3d theme. Thanks again and apreciate your ideas and tips, Dani |

Tarbell has some stuff on magic drawing or charcol art. One is a drawing of a keg which the magi pokes with a fake spigot to produce a tap of liquid from the drawing. Another has the magi draw an object on a pad resting on an easel. The paper is torn from the easel bunched into a wad and thrown into the audience wherein the spectator opens the wad and discovers a real object (like an apple or something).
Also you could take something like an appearing broom/shovel/wand whatever and draw something like it in 2D only to produce it from some place as a large 3D equivelant. Bowling ball from briefcase? Kevin James had a bowling ball production from paper drawing also I think? Just some thoughts. Sounds like fun though.

Dani,
in my humble opinion the best 2d to 3d effect is Kevin James' Bowlarama...this is where a picture of a bowling ball along with the words "bowling ball" are written on a large sketchpad...close the pad and thunk!!...the bowling ball falls out onto the floor!...open the pad and the words "bowling ball" are still there but the drawn picture is gone!...cool effect but it comes at a price...$750 USD...you can find them sencond hand, from time to time, on the Magic Auction or the Café or even EBay (where I found mine for $575...I recall)...do a websearch for Bowlarama and Kevin James and you will find a video of Kevin performing this...it's the opening effect for his own show...this should tell you how good it is...mine is a "must have" effect that will always remain in my stage/platform show for an Imax kind of effect you could have the kids put on some 3d glasses, with your promo info on them, then do the effect...the glasses create the illusion that's so real that it's lifelike...hmmmm...might use this one myself!
