Donald,
I'm trying to tell him that January is only slow when you believe it is. My wife and I cover 7 SE states and our schools are booking great! Of course, we don't sell what others do. I've worked long & hard on making myself a catagory of ONE. No one offers the service or program I offer. I moved a long time ago from being a commodity performer. I don't compete on price. I wouldn't work schools for what a lot of my friends charge. And yes, my wife sends out 500-1000 pieces a week....week in and week out! Our calendar stays filled! There is NO bad time to promote! People buy something daily!

Actual cost? Expensive but worth it! We live quite happily on the results!

All The Best!

You do lectures in schools which is why you are bussy at this tim of the year, and those of us who are strictly entertainers are experience the winter duldrums. The bottom line is very few people celebrate much in the winter time. My work is primarily from April, thru New Years Eve. Please no one try to give me advise on how to find winter work I'm quite content with it this way.

John: That is wonderful to see what you and your wife are doing and the success that you both are able to share. Congrats on that and here is to another great and successful 2006.

There is no doubt in my mind, that I could be working all year round if I really wanted to. My wife and I just decided a while back that we wanted and needed January as a month off to rest up, relaqx, spend time together as well as work on new routines and new marketing for the coming year. It works out well for us and keeps us energized.

I've simply found a business system that works for our business. As for recharge time... we take lots of time off. Usually every Friday, Saturday & Sunday as well as a week off a couple of times a yr. I've worked a 4 day week for about 2 yrs now.

I used to do lots of private parties, daycares, afterschool programs, birthday parties...etc. I decided to concentrate on only 3 areas, schools, churches and business presentations.

I left commodity pricing. We no longer play "Let's Make A Deal!" I don't offer discounts on multiple presentations (clients are shocked by this one) Reason: The business costs do not diminish. Hotel, gas, food remains the same. I've created programs like no one elses. I've created a catagory of ONE.

Marketing is a numbers game. It needs to be ongoing. Your prospect buys when they have a need. If you aren't in sight when the "need" strikes someone else gets the deal.

Your programs should create buzz and raving fans. Recently I had the opportunity to be the opening keynote speaker at an education conference for my full keynote fee ($1500+ for an hour) because of the recommendation of a raving fan. Are each of your presentations creating positive buzz?

This year I decided to work a bigger game and leave my summer library business. The time off and bigger conference venues will be just what I envisioned.

It's taken me 30+ yrs in the entertainment business (20+ fulltime) to get to this point. Now we have very successful business systems in place and I'm always tweaking them still.

All The Best!

John is also one of the most creative people around. If you ever see, or read any of his routines, they are gold. That is why hundreds of entertainers try their hardest to get John to sell his stuff. It is probably the best out there.
Just my opinion any way.
