I have bought a very clever combination padlock, and would like some ideas for a mentalism routine for it. Its use is that spectator thinks of any four digit number, enters it and thus unlocks it.
Thanks. |

I used to find a couple, have them place their wedding bands on the lock. Shut it and mix the combination up. Then I'd ask them to try any number combination...of course any old combination will not work. Only the year in which they were married will. Its not a great routine by any means but it was a nice small token piece.

Hi for those who are interested in combi-lock magic!
I have recently created an improved version of the combination lock where you can genuinely have any 4 digit number called to open the lock but shown locked at random numbers to the audience. There is no need to preset the first 2 digits! Watch out for my 'Dream Lock'!
If you cannot win, make the one ahead of you break the record.

Have the padlock on a closed box so that the box cannot be opened without the combination lock opening. Once the audience members give out the combination that will open the lock, a folded piece of paper inside could have those four numbers written on it.

I believe Richard Osterlind uses the Presto padlock in his DVD. Presto locks are almost impossible to find in MN. Does anyone know other brand name locks that you can scramble the digits and the lock will still lock in place?

Thoughtreader the effect you wrote is nice but cannot be done with my lock as you need two numbers set,and don't know remaining two.Maybe you could PM me instructions.
Surely you would need to know four numbers in advance-or force them? |

Harry,
It CAN be done as I described it using one of three ways which I will e-mail you since we cannot post methods here. PSIncerely Yours, Paul Alberstat |

I found a Presto 4 digit combination lock on the interest at Mrlock.com/ I ordered one exactly the same as the one Richard Osterlind used in the ETMMM Vol.2 / Ultimate Matrix. This is a very fun and almost self-working trick. I can't wait to perform this one! P.S. the lock is not a gimmick one.

I have just found an ungimmicked combo lock that uses a WORD instead of numbers. I intend to use a little bit of preshow to have a participant set the word (it is very simple to do) and tohave them record their choice(nudge, nudge, wink, wink) because somethimes the word is forgotton. I can then use various subtle word effects (al la Banachek) to decern the letters in the show.

Im thinking of similiar lines to Thoughtreader's suggestion except use a gimmicked Add a number pad to force the prediction locked inside.Any thoughts on this method?

If I'm not mistaken, I got a lock similar what targazer's producing, where you can set it right before the audience and you don't need to set the first two digits.
Did I get this from Viking? Darn, its packed away and I'm out of town. Oh well. TG |

Thoughtreader pointed out a glaringly obvious thing which I totally never considered. If using a gimmicked ADD a number pad,you can use a regualr combi lock.
