Hello fellow Magician's:
I'm hoping I can get a little help on some type of Patter for Fantaso's Magic Flashlight, It's been on my shelf for years, so I pulled it down one night and looked at it and cannot for the life of me think of a good routine to build for it. So I am hoping someone can at least point me in the right direction, I would really like to use it. The effect goes like this; The magician shows a flashlight and tries to light it, but it does not work. Thinking it may be the batteries, he opens it up and instead of batteries, he discovers a red silk. He removes it and replaces it with two batteries and turns the flashlight on. Now for the magic, the Magician shows the silk in which he removed from the flashlight and tucks it into his fist. When he opens his hand their is a battery in place of the silk. The audience thinks the other hand has the silk but that too has a battery in it. Finally, he takes the flashlight opens the cap and inside is the silk again. Thanks, Abra |

Here's an idea that originated (as far as I know) from Bob Farmer...or at least from the demonstrator (Howard) on a website that I have forgotten. Assuming this is a parlor effect...say that, unlike David Copperfield, for magician's like yourself, your hand is often your stage. Your flashlight is an inexpensive lighting system. Say "watch this" and shine the flashlight onto the palm of your hand. Act as though you are grabbing the light as you turn the flashlight off. Then slowly, and mystically, open your hand and say "Completely Gone!" Of course it is a hoax. So as not to keep your audience disgruntled, you take your kerchief, a red one, representing the light, and actually put it in your fist and make it really vanish. Of course, it appears in the flashlight, etc. Hope this at least gives you a place to start.

Abra,
I have to make a correction...the effect titled Spot Light is by Dean Dill. Howard is a demonstrator on The Trickery website. If you look it up under their video demos, you will see Howard begin the routine. It might give a better sense of what I described. I would be interested in what you finally decide to incorporate into your routine. Nicholas |

I like the presentation, but this is not my idea.
