Totally amazed...
The only qualification to be a "magician" is a wallet, often not even that. The idea of a one-way back and reversing only one card has caused many adolescents to call themselves magicians. Buying overpriced books from magic dealers does not put you in a secret society. What did any of you (or me) do to have the rights to keep these secrets? Buy a book/video and/or join a board? Cruise the internet? So we can buy the secrets but someone else can't? If someone buys this book and puts in the work they are as qualified to call themselves magicians as 99% of those here. Who here didn't start with a library book? I still do the 10 count from the Harry Blackstone coffee table book I found in a library and zap "magicians" who haven't seen it all the time. If you want to talk about things that should never have been published let's take a short stroll through the review sections here at things published by magic dealers. Many performers make a substantial, if not majority, of their income selling hollow dreams to magicians. It's a fashion. Good magic often doesn't stay around long because of the demand of magician's for the new "great trick". Stigmata comes to mind. Fantastic effect. Anyone can buy it. One year from now everyone will be on to the next "in" trick and this gem will go the way of thousands of great magic tricks into obscurity. It will still sell, but few will actually do it. Those who recognize the worth of this gem will use it all their life and not be on the new, hot trick bandwagon...these people can call themselves magicians. Border's is not an issue. |
