Most would agree that "Expert at the card table" is one of best card books available on card manipulation, but what about the second half? Is the section on magic just as important as the first half?

To magicians it's probably more important than the first half. Well, let's say at least as important. Remember, some moves, like the diagonal palm shift, are taught in the legedemain section of the book. Not the artifice sections.

Hi Jerry,
I think the second 1/2 is very important; professional effects that would stand up today (see Ricky Jay's presentation of the Exclusive Coterie) great sleights (many unsurpassed) e.g. palm change, DPS etc. It also has some devilish "think of a card" ruses and sleights for terminating tricks e.g. the Revolution. I could go on and on...However, I don't think that it is necessarily more useful than the 1st 1/2 for reasons so clearly made by Paul Chosse in the link below ("where to start with Erdnase" if it doesn't work): http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......;forum=2 Hope this helps Justin |

The second half of Erdnase has some great information in it.I use a variation on the Acrobatic Jacks (with entirely different patter) in almost every one of my performances.
And make sure that you take a look at Erdnase's work on the Three Card Monte.

Thank you all for the responce. The reason I am asking, is because I was wondering if I should study the second half or not bother with it (due to not being as important as the first half). You comments are positive (that I should study ALL of the book).
Jerry BTW - And thanks for no one bashing me for mispelling Erdnase's name (it was a typo, I swear!). Hey Vandy hows the weather up there? |

Vernon and Ortiz have great books that expand on Erdnase. If you're going to 'study' Erdnase then you might consider Revelations & The Annotated Erdnase.
