In mental magic perhaps moreso than any other form of magic people really get there name with signature effects. Maybe they are in reality performed less than others. But for some reason they stick to you like glue, in most cases they may be your favorite effect. Luke Jermay got tagged with his pulse stopping routine. Derrin Brown made people fall asleep. Heck, even David Blaine and the magic world with his 2cm (Be Honest...)
So I thought it would be interesting if you would name your signature effects here! Just fun to read. I cant think of one right now seeing as I have only been performing for just over a year... But whats yours! |

One of mine is my Max Raven routine. It includes a psychometry routine, aome other bits, and concludes with a rousing game of Tic-Tac-Crow between Max and the audience. (The entire game is then shown to have been predicted by Max.)
Another is my Musical Chairs Prediction, LORD OF THE DANCE. Tony |

I try to make every effect/routine that I do, my "signature" effect.
Sure, the basic idea/methodology may have been created by someone else, but it's really not mine until I put my unique personal twist upon it. And until it's "mine," I don't perform it in public. I don't want anyone who watches me perform to ever say, "that's just like [name of other magician] does."

I don't think many mentalists have signature effects... If you said Uri Geller has a signature effect in bending spoons, I'd have to agree with you... Or Kreskin finding his check... Most of us don't and don't need to have such an effect, though I suppose it could be a nice hook for career-building. Keep in mind what the general public considers most memorable about a mentalist's performance and what other mentalists consider the most memorable could be very different things.

Isn't it more about being known for something... So like uri is spoon bending, Koran and his medallion, berglas and acaan and so on...
Mine is a mixture of character analysis, design replication and something else...

Yeah Iain, I think you have a good point. To be known for something I think you need to do something different than other performers. I think there is a good opening for a super memory person right about now. Not just a mnemonics expert, but someone with charisma etc.
In this superhero culture, I think there is a great opportunity for a mentalist or magician to come up with an angle and promote themselves
I love post its

Wow, how things have changed since I posted in this thread almost 13 years ago, talk about raising the dead.
Now I am pretty known for readings and trying to bring peace of mind and spirit to people. |

ACAAN, I'm quite known for that, it was an obsession for me many years, I currently have 46 I think methods to achieve it.

I understand the question...but here's a reply in the form of another question: Isn't it better to be known as THE mindreader/mentalist/performer who does a NUMBER of amazing things?
I'm not being snarky...but it seems to me that the PERFORMER is what makes the true lasting impact -- and he/she should transcend the effects they do. David
