Ok I have search for this already on the board but can't find it. ok Where can I learn this effect.
A spec is given a series of photos and ask to seperate them into 2 piles one they feel connected to and an other they don't, at the end they are turned over and they are seperated into dead and alive piles. I am pretty sure this is an old effect and derren has put his own angle on it. but I love how clean it is. any suggestions steve
I do look forward to the day when you post something constructive.

Could the same priciple used in out of this world be used? Slightly modified off course. I havent seen Derren's TV shows so I don't know.

It's the same as the OOTW that Derren teaches on The Devil's Picturebook tape, substituting the photographs for playing cards. Watch the TV special again, and listen to the compliment Derren pays to the spectator at the end of the routine (one of the funniest TV moments ever, for magicians).

I think 'Michael Weber' invented it (correct me if I'm wrong) there has been a long thread in the cards forum about it's secret being revealed on Wikipedia,
I learned it from the public library. It's where the other person magically separates the red cards from the black. It might be just what you need, excellent trick and a good idea to use it for this. Good luck
Give me back my head!

You could try a version of Luke Jermay's Out of this World (from Building Blocks)using photos.

There are loads of different versions of Out of this World, but I would go for the one that Derren uses which is on his Devil's Picture Book Video.

The one on Devil's Picture book is very good. Get it.

I was watching that episode on my laptop, and literally knocked it on the ground when DB made that comment, I was laughing so hard. I'm unfamiliar with the Devil's Picturebook version, but as I was watching it, I was thinking to myself that it looked quite a bit like Paul Harris' Galaxy...are there similarities between the two?
Thanks. |

Ok
OOTW is a PaulCurry effect.. I don't know were you can find it as a standalone manuscript ... I bought the original version manuscript from davenports (london). learn this effect first... the workings of the version you want are almost identical to the original version... it is a very nice clever twist that makes it very suitable for tv... although in my opinion it is absolutely unecessary to use that and not the original one... by the way.. the tv method has nothing to do with the devils picturebook method... it is much cleaner .. and bolder... I feel unconfortable to write these in the open forum.. feel free to move it to 'inner thoughts' ;) hope I helped mic ps. really..IMO the paul curry version is a stunner on its own.. stick with that don't make your life difficult... |

This has been very helpful. I think I will try and get hold of paul curry version. Is this not the version sold at penguin magic?

This $6.95 dowload is pretty good - covers a Paul Curry enhancement to his original effect

In my opinion, if you are looking for the best, easiest + cleanest version of OOTW, then check out Micheal Ammars version!!! I think it is on Vol.9 of his easy to master card miracles!!! Derren's is nice, but I prefer Micheal's.

It's in Magician's Magic by Paul Curry. I bought my copy from a regular bookshop. I've seen it a few times done by layman. It's a trick you have to really present to get a great reaction. I'll PM you some more details.
In his book, Curry tells a story about how Harry Green performed the trick to Winston Churchill, who insisted on being shown the trick 6 times. Churchill ended up being late to an evening session of parliament, turning up at 2am. |

The first card trick book (or one of the first) was 101 Amazing Card Tricks by Bob Longe. He gives a version, that in my opinion is better than Curry's. The book, as they say, is availible is all good bookshops with the 1993 reprint costing $5.95

I was thinking that with "CKC Planet Earth" the DB effect with dead and alive people can be done flawlessly without really having to stop or change piles. CKC planet earth...? where is this available? many thanks steve By the way, for pictures espically some good older ones, antiques stores and estate sales are excellant.
