Last May's issue of GENII, which I received in summer but only got to see recently, carried with it a free gift, the Magic Pro Wand, a magic wand that rolled down to a small size and then expanded to full size when thrown in the air. Inside the magazine was a two page article by Danny Orleans all about the wand. This wand works on the exact principle and method as a range of magical items, namely the 10 ** **** as was in fact confirmed by Danny Orleans in his article - yet it is openly being mass marketed in many thousands as a novelty or promotional giveaway to lay people in commercial situations such as trade shows, conference, promotional film openings and so on. It is apparently also being used as business cards, in Xmas crackers, and so on. You can see this item at http://www.themagicwand.co.uk/

I am flabbergasted and disappointed that a clever magical secret is being blatantly exposed to the public purely in the name of $$$.
That the specialised magical items that work on that principle can now be explained by any kid whose dad brought home a Magic Pro Wand from the office conference, or who found one in a Xmas cracker.
That 'The Conjuror's Magazine' would support such an exposure.
That there are magicians adding nails to the coffin of this magical principle by using the wand as a giveaway themselves?

Am I the only one?

Perhaps, But I think that most poeple won't make the connection between the two props.

I have been using these 'appearing magic wands' ever since I saw them at the Ohio Convention 2 years ago. I have my name and number/website printed on them and give them away to kids after every show (I plug it like this 'every one of the kids get a free magic trick at the end of every show')

They are expensive but they are the best investment I ever made. Everyone talks about them, people call and ask about the wands etc.

At the end of every show I teach them how to make it appear in the air (simply throwing it in the air) I doubt people would associate the 2 if they saw an appearing pole done live etc. Its obvious for us but not for them. Its a great business card...

I hope their product will be available for a long time....

These have been a giveaway since the Magic Circle first distributed them in a copy of the Magic Circular almost 3 years ago. They have also been available as a mass marketed giveaway.

That doesn't make it right or wrong.
