Each of us magicians have our own personal favorite card effects to watch despite what laymen might enjoy. My personal favorites are any card at any number or card mentalism type effects. My least favorite are oil and water and poker demonstrations.
What about you? What is your favorite card effect to watch? |

Vsha2, yes Mc'D' and invisible palm(various versions). These look simply impossible.
Although I have recently purchased "DMF" and a lot of the effects in this book are great.

Oh yes, definitely invisible palm aces. I've seen one done with a no deck vanish for the last card... that was great

I gotta put another note in for Invisible Palm. There is something so beautifully magical about it. I like Larry Jennings' handling.

I enjoy watching a good performance of the 21-card trick and I hate watching any card effect performed by an obnoxious or incompetent person. I admit that there aren't very many people who can perform the 21-card trick really well. But on the other hand, there aren't very many people who can perform any card effect really well.

I don't think I could choose a favorite. I like to watch Invisible Palm, McDonald's Aces, Torn... the list goes on and on.

Agree with stalakosa, Lennart Green's FISM act is art. It should be played with classical music like From Carmina Burana by Carl Orff...

Whichever new trick my seven-year-old son is working on is my favorite.
The best ones usually begin with "Wait, don't look yet..." and feature moves masked by "Hey, look over there!" ending dramatically with a resounding "Tah dahhhhh!" We'll be releasing his video for $19.95 in the spring... Regards, -jjg |

Essentially that's what we all say, just not quite as succinctly. My favorite card effects to watch are similar to most of the other posts - a really good rendition of Open Travelers, a really good T&R (... like Bits and Pieces, especially... I like Torn best out of those marketed). Clean transportation and clean restoration are two things I feel truly look like pure magic. |

Any effect that has a beginning, a middle and an end.
Now - how many card effects have that; in other words, something exciting 'happening' all the time? Let's be honest, most effects are 90% build up for 10% finale. You know what? There are very few effects in my view that have an impact throughout other than perhaps some gambling routines. Joe Ridings 'counting the cards' (similar to Matt Schulien's) could also be added to the list - it's got continual spectator involvement and gets genuine laughs. Come to think of it, a fast moving routine with a Svengali deck takes some beating. Perhaps that's why it's blown people away and sold millions over the years!
