A source for the effect itself or for routines to use with it or both?

I used to have a German made version.....really nice big bright heavy rope. It finally wore out and evidently they don't make them anymore. I tried the version similar to what Tannen's was selling a few years ago, but I was disappointed.... only about 12" long and very cheap thin rope.

If anyone knows a source of high quality 5 rope repeat, I'd like to know too.

What is the effect? Sadly, I've never heard of a "Five Rope Repeat" effect. Thanks.

To answer your question, Mike, it is basically the rope version of six card repeat.

I thought that might be what it was, but then, in trying to conceptualize this, all I could come up with was "Huh?".

Thanks for the info.

To answer your question, the basic effect is as follows:

The magician holds several pieces of rope in his hand. By counting them one at a time he demonstrates that he is holding only five pieces of rope. He then throws one piece of rope away and when he counts the ropes again he is seen to still have five pieces of rope. He then repeats this procedure four more times.

Best regards,
Levent

P.S. Somewhere at home I have a “five rope repeat” set. It was from in Japan (“Tricks, Co.”??) and was very well made. I bought it decades ago, primarily out of curiosity. After playing with it a while, my gut feeling about the trick itself is that you stand a better chance of entertaining an audience with the “six-card repeat” than with the rope version. But I could be wrong. Perhaps an inspired magician could make a great trick out of the “five-rope repeat”.

Last night I attended a lecture from Pavel. His ropework is spectacular. I have never seen five-rope repeat but if there is someone who can make beautiful gimmicked ropes for you it is Pavel. and yes, he does custom work!
Try to contact him

The Five Rope Repeat is an effect sold by French magician Jean Merlin in the late 70's. I have a set, but I'm not sure I still have the instructions. Perhaps a google search on "Jean Merlin" helps you out.

I'm pretty sure Hen Fetsch had a version in print. It could have been the original. I know the ropes are gaffed. A magician I know performs it.

It seems that Daytonamagic sells the Hen Fetsch version for $25.

One is probably made up already and the other just the instructions.

Oh my...I've let this go without responding...

Turns out I gave my German made to a friend who specializes in rope tricks, thinking he might be able to get some ideas from it. Well, he is a really great guy...and a rope genius....He brought the original set back to me. He had repaired it, made new set for himself AND brought me a new set! Amazing.
