I'm working on a routine from Tarbell Vol. I where a strip of paper vanishes and reappears with the help of the old TT. I like the bare handed vanish with sleeves rolled up and restoration but I'm struggling with some patter themes. The idea from Tarbell is not bad but not really my style. Any ideas on a comedy theme or lighter story? For those who do not know the effect, a paper strip vanishes and then reappears in a borrowed handkerchief.
Thanks for any ideas you might offer. Nothing is too off the wall to consider offering. |

It would depend entirely upon your character. What I say and what you say for the exact same effect may be two totally different things.

My routine is themed around the history of magic from around the world. It is somewhat comedy with audience participation. I was thinking of somehow using a chinese magic theme as I am intereted in building up my routine with a section devoted to magic from the ancient orient. One thought with the strip of paper was that it was used to teach ancient lessons of the chinese mystics...similar to the patter theme in the Tarbell book.

Simple rhyme will do!
Ladies & Gents- If we mix a little bit of Colour (show & fold the paper)with a little bit of mystery (put it in your hand)- that adds up to 1 thing And that my friends is- Magic (open or blow on hands-paper gone ) Works for me with good reactions for Bill switch, Vanishing cigs etc |

Brent-thanks for the idea. Simple is good. Very direct and lets the audience focus on the effect.
