What type of figure are you looking for. A traditional hard figure or possible a soft sculpt figure? Also the movements your wanting on it might guide you in a specific direction as well.

Chris,
thanks for posting. I'm looking for a hard figure. Tim Selberg is going to be doing the vent figures for us. Based on the requirements we presented to him the pricing is very very fair and I'm sure like his other work this will be a top notch quality figure.

Like MW pieces from Lynn, the wait is worth it I'm sure. Tim said he can actually do a realistic figure from a portrait, and judging by the one portrait project he has on his site I'm sure this will turn out just the way I want it.

Jake, there are many fine makers of figures out there (and a few I'd avoid at all costs!), but if you want a figure created from a portrait, Tim is the go-to guy.

I would recommend Brant. He is QUITE reliable and if you find a good artist to draw the patterns for his carving...he can create something quite remarkable.

I've worked with Brant on a few figures, meaning...I draw the patterns and he carves from my drawings. In return, he has taught me a few of his figuremaking secrets.

I owned a figure by Brant where I supplied him with TONS of detailed reference material. What he created was probably the best figure he ever made (in my personal opinion). The trick with Brant is giving him plenty of references for what you want. If you do so...he can carve ANYTHING. REALLY. Brant's mechanics are unparalleled in the figuremaking industry. I've handled EVERY figure out there, from an original McElroy, a Guyll, a Selberg, a Marshall - you name it - and Brant's mechanics operate like a hot knife through butter. Another great thing is, he creates all of the controls to suit YOUR wants/needs. He does them on every order (all of which are custom and one of a kind). Brant doesn't do molds or duplicarve. The only cast products on his figurs are the hands...but if you want carved hands he will do that as well.

I spoke with Brant the other day and he won't be making as many figures very soon. He is making custom nautical equipment in wood (which is far more lucrative than figuremaking) so he is being very selective about what projects he wants to take on. Get on his list while you can. Brangilm@adelphia.net (tell him I sent you).

Now, I've praised Brant now for a few paragraphs, but I must say that Ray Guyll and Selberg could BOTH do a great job for you. BUT, they're both bombarded with projects...so unless you want to wait a long time (meaning 2-4 years)you might try Brant. There is another great figuremaker out there who could do the job as well. Go to http://www.mrdeadguy.com. This gentleman "David Deneen" is a superb artist. I hear his prices are pretty good as well. You might try shooting him an email.

Good luck with these.
