Back in the mid 60's I saw Johnny Cash at Town Hall (I don't ever remember where Town Hall was), and his first song went like this.

"I hold my pants up with a piece of twine
I keep my eyes wide open all the time
I keep the ends out for the tie that bind
because you're mine,
please pull the twine"

The audience roared, and the show began. He probibly started his show like that for years, but that's what he did the night I saw him.

In the early 60's Johnny was not performing in Nashville, or touring with June Carter. He was hanging out with Bob Dylan, doing colleges, and folk clubs. Of course he partied a bit too much back in the 60's. Before he married June Carter he was more of a pop, and folk musician than a country musician.

Here's a nice variation to a classic.

A JC comment to Rodney Crowell;
Quote, "Son, I don't know you well enough to miss you if you were gone."

Wow, follow that!

I remember seeing June Carter on the Merv Griffin show. (a long long time ago) Merv introduced her, she walked out on stage, sat down on a folding chair, spread her legs wide open so she can hold her harp steady, pointed to the fellow in the first row who was sitting in front of her directly between her legs, and said "you got a real good seat don't you".

MY kind of woman
