Johnny Cash was always cool, but there were a couple of times in his career when he wasn't "hip." Not to many people get to come back into the public eye TWICE!

That rough, gutsy voice was something I could never ever forget. Johnny lived his music. He WAS the music. I loved the man in black dearly, and I always will.

I read a magazine article around the time the first American Recordings came out. The writer said something like, "If an Oak Tree could sing, it would sound like Johnny Cash." I thought that was bang on. Smile

Anyone read Johnny's autobiography, "Cash" ? (Cash The Autobiography. Johnny Cash with Patrick Carr. Harper 1997) Good read. His insight, and particularly his statement that every note on American Recordings came from his thumb, has really made me feel better about my own guitar style.

I just realised I have over 200 Johnny Cash tracks! That is a lot of Johnny Cash music for one man.

Any other cash fans around?

I don't have a lot, but I do like him. I like anybody with enough of a sense of humor to do things like; "One Piece At A Time," "Boy Named Sue" and "Chicken In Black."

Have you heard his take on "Thunderball?" Apparently, he came up with a different theme that they decided not to use. It's very good, just doesn't go with the whole "Carribean/Water" thing.

How about "Dirty O' Egg Suckin Dog" and "Oney" and "The one on the right is on the left"? Johnny had a great sense of humor!

Johnny Cash is as Americana (materials relating to American history, folklore, or geography, or considered to be typical of American culture) as Mom's apple pie IMHO...I am a huge fan.

I am not a large Johnny Cash fan, but every month or so I hear another Cash classic that I must have on my ipod. I now have 12 unique Cash tunes on my ipod. Of them my most recent entry is "Drive On".

Johnny Cash is the only person ever to be inducted in the Country, and the Rock and Roll hall of fame.

Anyone see "Walk the Line" ? Joaquin Phoenix pinned Johnny down as well as anyone could, I'd say. Smile

I thought that movie made JC look like a brainless oaf. I know he had his ups and downs throughout his career, but Phoenix's performance made JC just look dumb.
My ex-cat was named "Muffin". "Vomit" would be a better name for her. AKA "The Evil Ball of Fur".
