I know that birds can contract West Nile Virus, but I was wondering if this is a problem for doves. There have been confirmed cases around me of infected crows and wrens that I know of, and no telling how many cases that go undetected.

Can doves get this disease. If I get some doves, they would have to be kept outdoors, so is West Nile a possible concern?

Regan,
All native species as well as several non native species have been reported as being infected with the West Nile Virus. As mosquitoes are the vector for the disease your doves would be at risk if kept outdoors. There are precautions that you can take to lower or minimize the risk by eliminating mosquito breeding areas or use netting etc. But again this only minimizes the risk.

Thanks Daktari.

Thanks to you too Sperris. I just went out and sprayed my doves with "Deep Woods Off". I hope it works!

Just kidding also.

By the way, is that cousin Bozo with you in the Avatar?

LOL. Ok, you won. When I read those first three sentences of yours and noticed nothing else immediatly below, I thought you were serious. I was going to quickly tell you that spray was bad for your birds, was it off right away. Next, I scrolled down and noticed your joke. I see a clown can trick a magician. Smile
