Molsen, I was confused - I thought you were kdb424 (who started the thread talking about the Ghost Gaff Deck), so I thought the Army of 52 DVD might help you, but now I don't think so if you just have the regular Ghost deck.
I have not actually viewed the DVD yet myself, but I personally don't combine Ghost decks with other decks...perhaps one Ghost card in a black tiger deck could have some interesting possibilities? Kaylan |

Kaylan,
If I buy the gaff deck, I will certainly buy the DVD as well (unless you post and say it's not worth it). I hardly know any gaffed tricks at all. I do a Chicago Opener with a red deck and a ghost stranger. It got good results this far. Red and white looks fantastic on my black close-up mat I use a low value black card so the changing face doesn't raise questions. With the right presentation / patter it might play really strong that both change, but I don't feel I can pull that off. YMMV. Michael |

The Army of 52 DVD is fun, and while I imagine lots of street magies can get amazed reactions from lay audiences from some of the ideas, you'll like them more as a hobbyist than a professional entertainer. You'll find yourself saying "neat idea," "oh, lets try that out next time I have friends over," and "that's smart." I don't see you building a close up show around the effects.
As far as the nongaffed ghost deck goes, it is simply a beautiful deck. I don't see someone performing day in and day out with it, but during a scripted show or routine with a little theater and a bizarrist tilt, it can probably work well. It is just a nice deck to have; again, its beautiful, but its beauty will be lost on a lay audience.

I,m with mentalskeptic on this one. I bought the deck as a real impulse buy, a thing of beauty that was just too good to leave in the shop. However when using it with lay people, they always assume that it is gaffed or in their words "a magic deck" of cards. It has since being resigned to the ever expanding card collection, as a thing of beauty!

I own the Ghost deck and love it. It has a very unique look on both front and back of the cards. My favorite thing about the cards is that all the black cards are in black and white and the red cards have all black pips except for the pips in the corners, but the ones in the corners are red and outlined in black. When performing with this deck I get more people wanting to hold them and check them out that I try to do tricks where I let the spectator shuffle.
I also just bought the overpriced Ghost Gaff deck. I haven't rec'd it yet but I am truly hoping that there are some cool gaff cards. When I decided to move to the Ghost deck almost entirely I knew I had to break down and get the gaff deck. Even though they are overpriced I think that the spectator reactions will make up for the price. At least I hope!! I also have the Masters deck which is a very nice deck. I don't see a huge difference from the Ghost to the Masters but it is a little bit better. I like that they are just normal red Bicycles so when using this deck people feel comfortable with them unlike the Ghost deck they want to touch. Lastly, I just purchased the Vintage 1800 series. These are the cards that look like they are over 100 years old. The possibilities with these are endless! I wonder how much the gaff deck will cost for this deck? $50???? Marc |

Well I have a Black Ghost Deck and I've just kept it wrapped up. I assume one day I might just end up passing it as an heirloom. I hear cards lose their value after a long ENOUGH time, (say 20-30 years), even the rare ones.
I do not, however, know for a fact. The Ghosts did handle nicely when I had them but then I dived back into Bicycles. |

I like the Ghost Deck a lot as I bought a dozen ! Its handling is identical to Bikes. However, I noticed a difference in a regular Bike and a Ghost Deck when I performed Indecent. In this case, the regular Bike is better as it somehow works better as I tried both.

For the record, and to clear up any discrepencies, as I know for a fact there are some people who do not know, BLACK Ghost Decks were not released for sale but can only be won from the Ellusionist website. There were 5,000 made and the website says they have a market value of about $250.00. This is why I said I might just pass them on as an heirloon

When they first became available you could "win" them by purchasing like more than $300 worth of swag from them... I believe it was around Christmas '05... I didn't discover their site until about 3 weeks later...
They have a market value of $250 simply because they intentionally went with a manufactured scarcity, which is fine, that's they're perrogative... there's no such thing as bad advertising after all... but they're "worth" what they go for now because they're hot with collectors... I'd like to have one but I'm not paying that much for a deck of cards. I wouldn't be too surprised if one day they (or a very similar version) are released for general sale to the public anyway. |

The Vintage Series 1800 are my favourite. They present well and add a nice touch.
When doing flourishes and color changes I use the Black Tiger. |

Ok...I love the Ghost Deck....BUT
The first deck I got started to warp. I thought it was because of the Card clip I got from Ellusionist (one of their metal ones) so I sent it back and got a Porper clip. I broke out a new deck and started using my new Porper clip. Same thing happens!!! So, I ordered 3 more packs. Just got them today. I will not be using any clips at all on these...well after shuffling them and dribbling them a couple times, these friggin things are starting to warp also!!!! It's like if you grap the top and bottom (short sides) and squeeze it will make a clicking sound and the deck will be slightly bent that way. Then you do it the other way and the same thing happens but the cards are bent the oppisite way. This is killing me. I have always used Bicycle cards and have NEVER had any decks do this before...I even have old decks and they don't do it....I never knew it could happen until I got this Ghost Deck. I love the Ghost Deck but if this continues to happen, I will have to stop using them. I know about all the ways to straighten them, and beleive me, I have done them all...On my old decks, I would put them every other card turned over with a 20lbs weight on them for a week! They were good for about 30 mins and then back to the warp... PLEASE HELP ME! DOES ANYONE ELSE HAVE THIS HAPPEN?? Marc |
