Does anyone know the actual specifications of the M5? I'm looking to purchase
one that isn't branded so heavily. Size, shape, etc. Also, when ordering the M5, what type of 'rig' is supplied if any? If it would reveal, please PM me. Thanks! |

I don't own it, but I did at one time look at it seriously. If you do a search you will find more information than you want on M5's etc. It has been discussed a lot.

2" x 2" x 1/2" neodymium magnet (I believe nickle plated).
These used to sell for $200 by themselves, the price has really come down and it includes a nice set of asides (wrist wrap, already shimmed materials, shimming materials, "brass" rings, etc). It's really worth the price. Check around you can find it reasonably priced. There you go. Sean |

Unless you're dead set on the kit items that come with the M5, I'd *strongly* urge you to poke around on the web. Better, cheaper, and perhaps stronger M5-like items are easily found.
The items that come in the kit are nice -- shimming material, some coin stuff, and other bits and pieces -- but all can be found elsewhere (cheaper) and all can easily be constructed once you think things through. |

I was trying to be gracious... If you look on "the popular auction" site, you can find magnets just like what I described!

Check out:
http://www.wondermagnets.com/ (I have nothing to do with them, but they sell all types of M5-like items. If you look through the site, you'll see a *lot* of different options.) As I said above, I had an M5 from E but sold it. Had I known about wondermagenets, I probably wouldn't have purchased the M5. Now, to be fair, the basic M5 system does come with some interesting tidbits, but even these tidbits can be purchased separately (the E site lists what's included). The only really interesting thing, I guess, with the M5 is the documentation -- the PK booklet and Brad Christian's (very sparse and somewhat obvious) notes. If you're new to PK effects, these documentation bits will get you thinking about all the possibilities. My sense with the M5 -- when I performed with it -- is that a little bit went a *looooong* way. There's a tendency to, you know, show off a bit -- but in my case, that usually led my impromptu performance in a direction that was, er, not good. The other issue -- and I speak from experience here -- is that if you use an M5 or any other similar device, be very careful. Car doors, forks, and other odd items sometimes make themselves known very quickly. The M5 is quite strong. |

That's the place I got mine from, and I agree with the danger of these stronger magnets, I forgot I had one strapped to my leg, and went to get into my car and had the embarassment of sicking my leg to the door, it is not easy to remove once it is attached itself to a car door..lol

Thank you for your input. The magnet I was considering buying, in the $20-25 dollar range had the line 'This is our most dangerous item', followed, interestingly enough by, 'Popular with magicians'. That made me stop and think, should I go smaller?
Maybe I should just pony up and buy 'the most dangerous item' they have for sale simply because apparently, we magicians are very dangerous types |
