Is it just me, why I am not impressed with Joshua Jay's card magic on Close Up, Up Close? It kind of reminds me of Harry Lorayne's tapes. Harry is a good teacher yet I have not been attracted to hardly any of his tricks. Yet I love Ammar's Easy To Master Card Miracles, Bill Malone's On The Loose and John Guastaferro's DVDs. I am just wondering why.

I think his stuff is terrific! He is a great thinker, manager and performer. In such a short amount of time, he's contributed tons to the magic fraternity. Kudos to Josh, and pay no attention to jaschris' comments.

I attended one of Joshua's lectures recently and I can say that even though he is a young guy, he has a lot of talent and when he talks about magic he is years ahead of his age. Give him a couple of more years and I think he could be has inventive has Jay Sankey or maybe even Paul Harris if I dare say.

I think his magic is great. I saw him perform live at the L & L shoot and he fried me bad several times.

I'm surprised you don't like Joshua Jay. I always thought he had pretty universal appeal (but what do I know... I personally think that Harry Lorayne is a god).

I agree with those that say go see him live. I saw him at this past year's LVMI and he was very entertaining and had the chops to back up everything. He's a hell of nice guy too.

I wasn't impressed too much with his material until I saw him lecture. He's only the second magician I've seen lecture. The first was Michael Ammar. Ammar was a tough act to follow, but I think Joshua was almost as good as Ammar was. I actually went to see his lecture two nights in a row. He was incredible - and a very nice guy too. His "Remote Control" card trick was particularly good. All the magicians at that lecture were really downplaying him before the lecture, but afterward, they were all in awe. I found that hilarious.

I saw Josh lecture here in KC back in november. Incredible stuff. The best stuff though was when he friend a group of us at the bar after the lecture.

We had him here. He was OK. I'm not knocking him, but I did expect a bit more. He was not one to mingle too much, but all in all, do see him if you get a chance. Since I added a bit or two of his I would give him an overall "A" rating. Like I said I wasn't knocking him, I guess I just wanted to see more !
Not clever enough to come up with something orginal, or did I.

I think he's very knowlegeable, and he's a good teacher and, no doubt, a good lecturer. As for being another Paul Harris or Jay Sankey, I doubt it. I don't think he's creative like that. But, there's lots of good material on his new DVDs and I would certainly recommend them.

Joshua Jay's card magic is great. Close Up, Up Close obviously is not a complete collection of his card magic. But most card tricks performed in the DVD sets are very nice.

I remember seeing him when he was just learning magic ...and he is still learning.
I think he is coming along very well in the art of magic. Sometimes he has angle problems when you see him in person. Don't we all at times? Keep at it Josh ...your doing great. mobius |

I have seen Josh destroy roomfuls of knowledgable magicians. He knows his stuff and has some great chops too. He and Ammar are very similar, in my mind, in their ability to create well-researched, commercial magic with top methods.
Josh is also a very humble and nice guy. He has accomplished more before thirty than most magicians will achieve in thier lifetimes, and yet he is still very easy to talk to. |

Josh's magic is great. its new, and very thoughtful. I went to his lecture at Marc DeSouza's house last week, and everything he did was SO amazing, visual, and mostly on the easier side of being able to perform. a think that his style of thinking will push new effects to a whole new level!

The reason you love Ammar's ETMCM series more is simple; it's a "best of" series that takes one or two effects from each of several of the best names in magic. It's like when you make a cassette (or DVD, for you young guys) of your favorite songs to take on a road trip. Sure, most of the songs might be from your favorite band, but you're going to pick & choose. Let's say you took 2 tricks from a bunch of different magicians...your 2nd favorite trick from your 5th favorite magician is probably better than your 10th favorte trick from your favorite magician.
