Can anyone tell me about the holding capacity of this table? My props have outgrown the size of my old table and I want to make sure the new one I buy is capable of transporting everythin I need. Here are some of the larger contents I need to transport for my kids show:
1. Large Double Load Dove Pan 2. Crystal Silk Cylinder 3. CD Player for Vanishing Bandana 4. Champagne bucket for Miser's Dream 5. Sucker Die Box 6. Large Axtell Drawing Board 7. 12" Chinese Linking Rings Any advice or feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Kent

Hi Kent
I am not sure about the, "Axtell Drawing Board", cause I don't know what that is, and I am not sure what size CD player you are using, but as far as all the other items you mentioned you should have plenty of room with a, Joe Lefler, large table. After you do your research and if you decide to go with a Joe Lefler large suitcase table, I have one I bought a year ago and have never ever used it (other than to store a few props in). My wife bought it for me and I never did book any kid shows. If interested PM me and maybe I can save you some money. Check to be sure it will house your props properly first. Bill |

I have one that I've done about 100 shows with. It's gone into and out of trunks, up and down stairs and is still in good shape. I've had to retighten the hinges a couple of time but I'd recommend this table to anyone.

Instead of a CD player, consider an IPOD/mp3 player with some small speakers.
I use an IPOD with an AirClick to control it.

You're discussing a current conundrum that I'm experiencing right now. I've used my Lefler table for over 10 years now, and have recently gotten a Viking table. I wish there were a way to combine the benefits of both! I like the fact that the Viking has the bottom DOORS to the larger compartment and it's MUCH easier to get big stuff out (silk cylinder and related items). The Lefler will sit in the back of the car I use for birthday parties (a 2005 Toyota Matrix) standing up, and the Viking is about an inch too tall! The drawers on the Viking kick butt, compared with the shelves of the Lefler. I had to replace the wheels on the Viking when I got it. It's REALLY TALL when open, even for me (I'm 6'3"), and the Lefler is the perfect size. Another thing is...the top section (hinged part) of the Lefler tends to flex out while it's open (it's very humid here in the South) and not stay open just using the little "L" shaped things. I have to use a nylon strap to tighten it and hold it safely open.
I can't fit Babcock items into the drawers of the Viking, but they fit fine in the Lefler... I seriously can't decide which to use for what. Steve Thomas |

Here's the tip o' the day for the lefler tables:
the 99 cent store had some plastic containers for .... 99cents each that act as drawers for me in the lefler table. 3 of them fit side by side snuggly in the table shelf and are absolutely wonderful. even without the lids, nothing falls out due to the snug fit. so I got great drawers for $3. the large lefler table would take 4 drawers if I have my dimensions correct.

Thanks for all the advice! I recently purchased an i-pod and will likely switch to some battery operated speakers if I decide to get the Lefler table. The owner of my local magic shop told me where to find the perfect speakers that will velcro nicely onto the table.
The idea with the drawers was great. There's always lots of little utility devices and props that like to "run loose" inside a table. Up until now, I've been using ziplock bags, but the dollar store drawers will be much more efficient. The only thing I have to figure out is whether the large Axtell board will fit into the table. You could use the ipod with a Pignose which runs on batteries. I have not tried that yet but I do have both.
12 inch linking rings will be a tight fit in either lefler case. they are too big to go in parallel to the floor. the only way they will fit is perp. to the floor and parallel to the front/black plane of the case right at the back of the case (toward the perfomrer). They will need to be the last thing you put in the case and they will fit. I'm pretty sure even the large case is no deeper than the small case. I can store rings in the small case as long as it's not my owen rings. Those I keep in a suede bag and the suede bag goes inside my tabletop bag. When I go to a gig, I have my lefler table and my tabletop. For me, neither lefler table has sufficient room on top, especially if you're doing cups and balls. I need at least 18x24 and will be moving up to 20x26 shortly.

I received my Lefler table a few weeks ago and it's absolutely fantastic. very solid castors, good construction and a solid design. The Large table holds a deceptively large amount of props but, darn it, it still won't fit my chair suspension!
The only thing that would have made this table better would have been some side handles to enable you to lift it easier. That's not a huge problem and the table can easily be modified. The other thing I noticed was that the table may have a tendancy to move or tip over during transport. Again, not a big problem. I just have to remember this when I pack the back of my Jeep. All in all, this is one of the best purchases I have made. Now all I have to do is get some professional signage to velcro onto the front of the table and I'll be set! Thanks for all your advice and guidance! Kent

I love the top handle of my Lefler table. I find the side handles on my Viking Pro-Table a tad cumbersome. Also...both of these tables will tip and fall if not packed and braced properly in transport! Trust me on this. I have to use my Peavey 112's when I'm traveling in my van with the full show...they'll hold the tables up and still.

I also use one of my "poacher's pouches" as a servante on the lefler table.
It fits right in between the two latch hooks and attaches with nothing more than a black string and shock-kord to tighten it up. I'll see if I can take a photo.

For my money the Lefler table is worth its weight in gold. I have used one for 10 or more years and it is still going strong. Last year it fell approx 4' off a loading dock (because my former assistant was more interested in getting her cigarettes out than watching the table) it landed on a corner and it was loaded with props and there was no damage to any of the props and the table is still in use. Most tables I've seen if they went through something like that would be firewood by now.
