I made my own bicentennial torn and Karate coins, and keep a third to swap in and out as "normal". The rest I hand out to kids, along with any other "throwaway" halves. They'll try tearing 'em and poking their fingers through them for the rest of the week. Their parents usually weird out, like I've given them a rare, precious gold krugerand.
Best fifty-cent calling cards in the world. Keep a coin purse packed with 'em. Regards, -jjg |

Thanks for the info, JJG. I will seek out some from those years. BTW, you are a generous guy to give out 50 cents at a time like that! I applaud you.

No sweat.
As to my "generosity", I only reward well-behaved kids. In this day and age, that ain't costin' me much... Regards, -jjg |

Even here in Belgium, those bicentennial halves are quite common in the coin shops that carry kennedy halves...
So are the Ikes dollars. |

J. Gravelle,
Wow!!! Thanks for the tip on the clads! Holy cow! What a difference! Wow!!! Was I the last magician in the U.S. to know about this? What really surprises me is that I have some old Walking Liberty and Franklin silver halves, which I believe also have a higher silver content than my post-1971 Kennedies, but the milling on those is NOTHING like the clad Kennedies. J. Gravelle is exactly right when he says, "The coin palms you." This is going to open up a whole new world to me... Thanks again. |
