I am very happy to work with agents that are open and in business to benefit the client, the performer and themselves. I have a good working relationship with a number of decent, hardworking and honest agents.
Having stated that, it is no secret that I personally disagree with the way that Philip and Henry conduct their business (see The Magic Café Forum Index » » Tricky business » » Philip and Henry Productions). Others may disagree with me and defend them. I want to take this opportunity to point out another reason, that I have heard about, that I recommend avoiding them. Central to P & H's M.O. is that they sell the "Amazing Magician" or some such thing as opposed to selling you. Yet, once they have used you to any success, they take your identy, without your permission, and link it to their web site, thereby high-jacking searchers seeking you. They then, at their discretion, either call you for the show or say that you are unavailable and book someone else. Any agent that operates in this fashion , in my opinion, should be avoided. Beware! All the best, Rob |

Rob,
In what way do you mean that "they take your identity, without your permission"? If you're talking about the photos on the website, they requested that performers send them to them. I think you really need to clarify what you're talking about. Can you be specific? Michael |

Glad you noticed Rob.
I am pretty upset at Philip for advertising (We book Tricky Ricky magicians and supply Tricky Ricky magic on his web site) I think we all know what his intensions are. I guess that is what Rob is referring to. I spoke to him last year about removing that Tricky Ricky magicians, and he said he'd would remove it---he never did, he had no intention to. He did not even ask if he could do it. I was surprised and beside myself when some of my magic friends called to point it out. In the past, I consider Philip tp be a trusted friend, and then he did this. I am a very patient and easy going person, but once I draw the line-- I never go back. I have done mostly schools, daycares and magic classes for him in the past. Richard Lyn (Tricky Ricky) |

Richard,
It sounds like you have a legitimate complaint but I haven't found what you are referring to. Does Philip have your photo or your performing name on his website? If so, could you link me to it to see what it is he did? Thanks, Michael |

This is my final communication before taking legal action. Your website uses my name and trade style without my permission, and I demand the removal of any such references within 24 hours."
Then contact your attorney to follow through - a gruff letter from a lawyer usually gets action from most people. |

Here is another post from a while back that is closely related.
http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......44&4 In this one the leech was doing faked "reviews" and "rants" about entertainers he never met or contacted and their websites he never saw that were purposefully aimed at showing up on search engines when the entertainers' names were used. When the searching victim clicked on the search finding, instead of taking you to something belonging to the entertainer, it took you to the leech's site and he tried selling website services. Highjacking is too good a word to waste on the parasite. Fraud is fraud. Thieves steal. You will see why I believe in controlled access to your professional website. Put a freebee or cheapie out for the masses but protect your professional business for professionals in the business. Make them contact you for admission to the professional website and shut them out as soon as the need to know is gone. Hang in there. Parasites constantly hunt host animals. Beware!
