Couple of questions here guys, as never performed a trade show myself.
1. How do you cope when you perform a trade show, and you find that a nearby stall/stand has emplyed a trade show magician? 2. What sort of act do you present? Do you do a set routine which you repeat every 15 minutes? or just constant performing for your alloted time? 3. Which brings up another point, how long are you emmplyed for usually? Do you stay for 3 hours? or the full day? or the full weekend? I would love to break into the trade show market, but before I put it on my website, I want to make sure I know what to do. Is there any literature out there specificaly about corporate trade shows? I have corporate close up (sanderson) and Ih ave seen a number of other dvd's on RSVP magic. Can anyone help me on this subject? |

Everyone is different
me personally I work constantly throughout the day---every hour I may step away for 5 minutes for a drink and some general resent and tidying up my case area and then I get back into it. I like to add breaks as the booth becomes dead and they realise why they hire me when I return. I sell 1 hour to full day and have different price ranges for this. If they want a customised show it costs more as here is more work for me to do. The first hour is the most expensive and then it drops down to ensure that if I am there for only an hour I still get paid alot. The act I present is Close up or stage (resetable stage) with minimum props (no big illusions) I think it is important to understand the WHY's esoecially with trade shows why are you hired. To entertain----not really to stop traffic--- yes to engage passing traffic ----yes this is my (and others) selling angle to engage and stop passing traffic don't just say you do trade shows- actually tell them what you'll be doing at the trade show |

Have you ever performed at a show, where a nearby stand has a hired a magician?
I'm just dreading the fact of someone hiring me, and the stand next to me having a top pro who's been in it for years, and my confidence going out the window in the first hour! |
