I wanted to post a general question in regards to return rates on sizes of flyers used as a marketing tool. We are performing a huge magic production show at a 660 seat auditorium in May. We are doing all of our own marketing and sending out flyers to various groups, schools and daycares is just a small part of the equation. The flyers are full color and professionally designed to really hi-light the show and how it can benefit those who might attend.
My question to any of you is: has anyone tested or tracked the success rate of using 8.5 x 5.5 flyer as opposed to the larger 8.5 x 11 format. The reason I ask is that we have already over 4,000 flyers going out to various locations. There is plenty more to come. This means a staggering number of flyers to be mailed out in the coming weeks ahead. we are very grateful for the huge request of flyers that we are receiving. The only problem that I see is that perhaps printing a smaller flyer 2 to a sheet will save me time in printing them and in postage. As a designer I have already designed them in both sizes. The smaller size looks and reads well and will save me a ton of time to be able to get them out sooner. I just was wondering is a smaller size format just as effective as a larger size. Has anyone tried or tested it? Kyle

Kyle...we use exactly what you are talking about. A 2-up flyer. It works very well for us. Local area merchants will also be more likely to place them on counter tops in their business. As mentioned you will have twice the flyers at the same price. It is a nice piece to go along with posters that are hopefully seen all over town.
I'm not quite sure what you said the only problem would be....maybe I'm misreading it. Kevin

Thankls Kevin,
That is exactly the information I weas looking for. The problem was my fear that a smaller 2 up flyer would not get the same return rate as a larger format. I had never tested a smaller format flyer so I was worried that perhaps it would not have the same impact. It certainly is saving me money and time on the smaller versions. I have them designed as a two up and print them out that way. they still look good and read well also. I just have never tested it and wanted advice from folks that have. Thanks. I think this may work out quite nicely. I also like your idea of having these as well as tthe larger posters to go around town. Thanks again and I hope others may also chime in. Kyle

I don't know if this helps you or not but. I have had flyers made up(in addition to the larger ones) 4 to a sheet. They were not color . They were just lack and white. And I had business keep stacks of them next to thier registers and let customers take them or they could offer one. Now I am a mentalist and work coffee shops and other venues in our "art district" of the city. It worked well for us.

London:
Thanks so much for posting here. I do appreciate your thoughts and comments. It seems as though the smaller size can work just as effectively for marketing and acquiring a good return rate as a larger size format and also allow me to save money in the process. I also am liking the fact that I can give them to retail places to place on their counters as well as libraries and it does not take up as much space. I just have not tested it or tracked any of the results, so I wanted to ask to see if anyone else has done this and what success or differences it had made for them. thanks again all. Kyle

Thanks. So far the smaller flyer has gotten a lot og favorable comments and reviews from the fiolks we have been sending them to as well as the businesses also. It appears that many of you are right in that the businesses actually are preferring the smaller size format. I can not thank you all enough and will keep you posted on how it goes.
