Many "in the hands" tricks: Buy "Stars of Magic" for a bunch of items. "Copper Silver Transposition" by Scarne, (there are lots of other version around, but SoM has lots of stuff in one place!), "Liepzig's Pride", a beautiful effect with a stack of quarters pentrating the spectator's hand. "Liepzig's Opener", a card trick with a change happening on the spectator's hand, then a penetration into his hand! Francis Carlyle's "Copper/Silver with a Watch Steal", a great coin trick that sets the spectator up for you to steal his watch right off his arm! Emil Jarrow's "Cigarette thru Handkerchief", another penetration type effect with the spectator's handkerchief and a lit cigarette. I have done this with a borrowed jacket in place of the hank and it works beautifully.
Of course there are a lot of things throughout the literature, but you have to spend some time digging. "Cards Across" happens in the spectator's hands. Al Baker has a version, Mike Zens has a version in envelopes that is terrific, etc. Look in the Baker books, or in "My Best" by J.G Thompson, Jr. Tarbell is a great source, as is Greater Magic. I don't think anyone interested in Magic can afford to be without these two cornerstones of our literature... Best, PSC P.S. The "Egg Bag", especially the Malini routine, involves the spectator, and a lot of the magic happens while they are holding the bag. This is great because there are no angles, it fits in your pocket, you can do it close-up or for a roomful of people. |

Well, the effects I perform in spectators hands differs for each performance setting, the once I'v been using are:
Mulitiplying sponge ball routine where the spec. ends up with 8 sponges in their hands. I do ashes in palm, 3 coins across, Joshua Jay bill change who happens in spectators hands (up close DVD). The dime and penny trick who Greg Wilson performs in the On The Spot DVD's. And I do my own version of the floating finger ring routine who ends up in the spectator hands. (LeClair whos afraid of Invisible thread DVD). If you ask this question on the New to Magic forum you will probably get a lot of clues on other effects as well. Eirik |

Actually, Jay Sankey has a few effects that fit this criteria in his Secret Files DVDs. For instance - Penalty Box (A card vanishes from the card case and appears in the spec. hand), Sweet Bread (A sugar packet and a bill change places in a spec's hand) and Sensations (two key transposition in the spec's hand).

A Questionable Trick by Greg Wilson in his On The Spot dvd is pretty good. Like an impromptu copper and silver but in their hand.
-A single death is a tragedy, a million deaths is a statistic.
-It is easier to fight for one's principles than to live up to them. -The secret impresses no one. The trick you use it for is everything. See you space cowboy... |

I know a few card effects where the magic happens in or under the spectator's hand. Dr. Daley's Last Card Trick(?), Kardekuntse(sp?) by Darwin Ortiz, certain versions of Twisting the Aces, the last phase can occur in the spectator's hand (if you trust them enough to follow directions lol).
Just a few Thanks Shawn
