So we have it.... The Study of a coin penetrating through glass while being tossed, always intrigued my curiosity. It may have been a glass door, glass table, window or even a car windshield. We have all seen many methods and variations of this illusion......some that appear FANTASTICALLY MAGICAL and others NOT.
Of course this would all depend on the very method we employ. The research and time put into studying this illusion......Led to a few major questions? 1) Can this be executed spontaneously upon any giving time? 2) Can this be performed "TOTALLY SURROUNDED" by spectators? 3) Can this illusion be created in the mind of our spectators. 100% (not 99% or less)? 4) Is there a particular sound a coin should or shouldn't make while penetrating glass? Who really knows.?considering it has never been done. Simply because it's impossible! 5) When a coin is thrown through the class "MAGICALLY" should it be caught with the other hand or simply land where it lands? 6) If a coin can appear to be tossed from palm to palm while appearing to penetrate glass..... Could this also be executed tossing the coin from finger tips to finger tips? 7) If a Magician simply threw a coin through a solid pane of glass from hand to hand.....than it should stand to reason....the coin should never be out of the "SPECTATOR'S VIEW"...... not for even a second........ IS THIS NOT TRUE? (Especially if it's from finger tip to finger tip!) 8) The Biggest question of all....If a coin can be made to look as though it is thrown and magically penetrated through solid glass.."ONE DIRECTION".. Than this would only make sense that the coin should be simply thrown back in the "OTHER DIRECTION" ...immediately. Enabling us Magicians to create a penetrating toss, back and forth from hand to hand through a solid pane of glass....... in the most MAGICAL WAY anyone has ever seen ...... Is this possible? 9) Last but most "VERY IMPORTANT" ... Could this all be done with the spectators seeing one single coin,,PERIOD! Not to mention an EMPTY hand as well ?????????????????????????? After 1 year of research...... The answer "YES" came up to all "THESE QUESTIONS" A few weeks ago while in Las Vegas at the Hard Rock Café 'Casino ..... I was performing this for Street Magician "GAZZO" and his friends! It went over "PERFECT"............ I mention this STRONGLY because "GAZZO"is extremely hard to fool !!!!!!! Mickey Silver, is a big authority in coin magic and
I respect him a lot. However I have to lower my expectations about this, as I've enountered a post about "SILVER SUBTLETY" by Mickey, that started as a tease few months ago but somehow to my knowlege havent seen the day of light. At least not in the magic stores.... I hope this one will be better. |

With a sheet of glass in place of your head (ref; your ear to ear illusion) I can see how this would work the same way and look even more amazing. I say more amazing because everyone KNOWS a coin cannot go through your head, however, a coin going through a pane of glass seems, I repeat, seems more plausible and therefore enhances the impossibility by making it appear to be more possible thereby strengthening the illusion and creating a truly magical moment.
Whew...glad I got through that comment. Speaking of that ear to ear illusion. Have you ever considered asking a spectator to assist you, standing behind them, and perform the ear to ear coin illusion through 'their' head? They would be oblivious to why the audience is absolutely in awe of what they are seeing. It might be fun. Now...about that Silver Subtlety...??? |

Honestly Craig , I came around to thinking, if a coin can go through my head..."BACK AND FORTH" from finger tips to finger tips!!
"WHY NOT CLASS" What I am basically doing is substuting my head for a pane of glass.....Of course many different positions had to be created to make this illusion appear angle proof. The Back and forth "COIN" throwing effect is most effective..."ESPECIALLY when your audience swears beyound any doubt you are using one coin. < That in fact is the real "KEY" to this illusion. Don't get me wrong Craig, timing, momentum and hand positioning are "CRUTUAL" "HOWEVER" creating the belief that a single coin is being used "IS THE REAL "KEY FACTOR".....It is all quite interesting!! Mickey,
The illusion would be even more magical if there was a slight click just as the coin was supposedly going through the glass plane. I think if you could really do it, there would be sound involved. Otherwise it's coin through anything, however beautiful it is. I write this in keeping with talking about how to improve effects and there affect on the spectator. Brian |

I had a method, too, but, alas, it involved breaking the glass.
Going to get band-aids now. Tongue firmly in cheek, Scott P.S. In all seriousness, keep up the good work! |

Mickey: I couldn't agree with you more. The specatator must believe there is only one coin. Everything flows from there.
Thanks Craig |

Those of us who own Ultimate card through window can adapt it to accomplish the effect of throwing a coin through the window. Not so impromtu but would do the trick.

I think a coin through glass is a facinating idea/effect. Partly because "nothing is hidden" -- it's glass afterall... Once the "fact" that a single coin is used, it will really intrigue the spectator. He/she is going to want to see it over and over again -- and that's problematic, in that one may start to question the use of a single coin. The obvious (and I am the master of the obvious - lol) solution is to vary the method each time. Having several convincing methods of a coin-thru-glass is a challange that I believe you can meet, Mickey!! One more thing... and imagine this is in very small subliminal print: (It's OK to get rich quick... just make your instructional DVDs asap!) OK, that was tacky.... sorry Mickey. I'm starting to succumb to coin anxiety.

Some of us have been tossing and dropping coins through glass surfaces for over twenty years. A few have published routines where coins penetrate glass tabletops, also about twenty years. It's no biggie to turn coins through table on its side. What really matters is how you present it.
...to all the coins I've dropped here

I've seen lots of methods for this effect. I can't understand what the point is of THIS POST. Is it, as already mentioned, a vessel from DRUMMING UP SOME HYPE. Or is it supposed to be INFORMATIVE? Confused...

Thanks Mickey, that's how I see an illusion should be presented.
Knowing what you want the audience to persive. In this case the absolute believe that there is only one coin is crucial. Many (magicians/magic enthusiest) might be able to do the moves if tought. But how many can accomplish the illusion (make the spectator see and believe what you want them to) with the same moves? Will |

When doing 3 Fly with 4 coins, the spectator knows its there, they just don't tell you. In most 3 Fly routines to the spectaotr, its more of 'Hide the 4th coin'. That is why I feel here, it is more, hide the 2nd coin. I would actually like Mickey to teach his Legendary retetion vanish and his experience on it, but I wont hold my breath on it being released |
