I know how you feel. While out shopping, I often wonder why I didn't bring a cup with me to measure new and interesting loads. Now I know it won't make me weird if I do. Posted: Feb 10, 2006 5:59pm ---------------------------------------- Like many others here, I've only heard about Jason Latimer's cups and balls routine, never seen it. Fortunately, I have found an online vid of it, taken from Jason's appearance on The Late Late Show a few months ago. It has been posted elsewhere on the forum, but here it is for those interested: youtube.com Jason Latimer on Late Late Show |

That's was a great performance. Is there anywhere I can download a better quality version to watch? Also wasn't someone selling Crystal Cups a while back?

My name is Johnny Mystic (a.k.a. Christopher Robertson) and I am...*gulp*...a Cupsanballsaholic. I know I have a problem, that's why I'm here, to receive support from all the memebers here who have the same affliction as my own.
Okay, years and years ago I saw a video of Johnny 'Ace' Palmer performing the C&B's, in one part of his routine he stacked the three cups in a pyramid shape, picked up one ball and slammed it thru the top of the cup that was on top of the pyramid stack, the ball penetrated the top of the cup and landed on the table. I immediatly realized he was using combo cups and copied the move and put it into my wannabe C&B's routine... years later and just a week ago I got me some ungimmicked cups and am now working on the same pyramid stack penetration. I can get it about 1/3 of the time, however the set-up for it still feels and looks abit dodgey. johnny

Man, I wish jason's routine was practical routine.
But alas, you can't have the perfect routine. Great for stage show though /drools I'm so including all the concepts to create a c&b special stage routine =D=D. |

Jason's routine is practical for where he works it. A formal close up show at the Castle, conventions, TV spots, etc.

Right..>< I'm sorry I was thinking only in context of street show since I was thinking in terms of C and B.
And even now that I come to think of it... His routine could be very well adapted into street routine as well, I believe, provided there is some minor adapation done. There is nothing that can't be done there. And yes, it is an ingenius routine, using ingenius sleights.. When it first hit me it was one of those pure euphoric moments XD Maybe I should join this CBA ... xD |

I want you to consider your own post. You do not say who you are. You just call yourself "modern_sorcery" and "Modern Sorcerer." As far as I know, I have never seen any post from you that indicates you have any experience in magic whatsoever. And even if I did know who you are, this is an open thread, and I could not post any move to it. That would be revealing a secret on an open forum. Obviously, with fewer than 50 posts, you could not possibly have read everything I have posted -- UNLESS you are now posting under an assumed name. Quote:
Since the magic community does not know who you are, I don't think you can apologize for them. You certainly cannot apologize for me. Quote:
Kinda hard to see the message without seeing all the things that get in the way -- the hatred, the lack of facts. Really, I had no intention of slighting Pete or Malini. Again, I'm sure Pete understood that, and Malini really doesn't care, now, does he?

Went to Tannens today and actually held the Frank Garcia Cups, they look nice, however they are aweful light weight. I expected heavier cups(which is what prefer) for that kinda price tag.
Maybe it's the name that sells 'em? They look kinda weird to me...they remind me of the metal cups my Grandmother had sitting on the side of her sink in the bathroom. johnny

Johnny,
I almost bought a set of Frank Garcia cups when they came up in an online auction. Luckily, I checked them out on the Café and received some excellent feedback from Bill Palmer. After that, I decided against getting them and I've never regretted it. Kent

Oh man, I can't tell you all how often I float around the internet, dreaming, drooling and planning on what other kinda cups to get someday, theres just so many kinds of cups...I guess I've never grown outta having a special little wish list.
In my entire life in magic of over twenty some odd years, I've never been so attached to an effect like I am to the cups and balls...I've even had dreams about them! could this be signs of an obsession??? In this dream I had reached for my cups and to my dismay they were all badly dented and my balls were missing...of course when I awoke all I remembered were my cups were dented, I had attitude, then realised it was a dream man! I gotta get a grip!!! That was this morning and I haven't touched my cups nor my balls yet, as a matter of fact I I haven't even looked at them...they best not be dented...oop's there I go again!!! So, all in all it's probably a good thing this thread was started, anyone else need support? LOl johnny

I wouldn't worry about the C& B obsession - it's a fun one to have. I might work on one of the Colombini routines - I still remember watching it on his first U.S. lecture tour. But, now I'm really into the chop cup and am working on building my routine.
Does anyone know if the Paul Daniels routine for chop cup is on video, and if so, where? |

There is a video called 'The Best of the Paul Daniels Magic Show' that contains highlights from some of his UK shows. Amongst these is his Chop cup routine. It's a performance-only tape, but if you can get hold of it, it's worth getting just for the Chop cup routine. It may have been released on DVD briefly. Richard

Regarding the Frank Garcia cups -- I don't know why Frank put his name on these things. They are really ugly. In his own book he recommends the Paul Fox cups. Interestingly enough, Frank had very close ties to Tannen's and Tannen's couldn't get the cups from Danny Dew.

I would like to join the group, I love cups and balls, I am an addict to cups and balls since a long time.
I own a lot of differents sets. Classics sets like Phoenix cups and balls, Bosco cups, a johnson chop cup.... I would like to thanks Bill and his wonderfull website for this. This is a great source of knowledge and advices for cups and balls lovers. I would like to ask a question: you are all talking about the classic cups and balls, no one talk about the Hindu cup and balls, or the classic bowls tricks. Bill, you are certainly the most qualify historian about the cups and balls trick, can you explain us why this trick is not as popular as the classic one? Because of the difficulty to find a set, because of the rare material writting for this trick? It seems to me that if this knowledge is not used,,not transmit, maybe it will die and vanishe? So what to say about the bowls routines? I guess everyone knows about the great one of Roy Benson: the Benson Bowl. This routine is for me the door for entering in the wonderfull world of the bowls routining, and to make a travel in history, in the middle oriental market place magic, and even more far: in the extream oriental magic. Just see the wonderfull bowls and fan routine from the great Shigeo Takagi, it is a pure marvel of magic and poetry. For the pures, you can try the Rezvani bowls routine too, it's really the one that made me became crazy about bowls and hindu cups and balls magic. So I am very interesting for being and active member of the group, and I will be delighted to share my small knowlegde about cups and balls, and if they are any amators for the hindu cups and balls and bowl tricks, it would be a great thing. I am sure all of you are!!! Be indulgent with my poor english. Have a nice day Gentlemen. François. |
