Steve just started writing again on his site promoting some new products. He has to be around here somewhere.

On shipping stuff to the U.K. from the U.S.A. I just had a friend who shipped something that was suppose to arrive in about seven days. It took almost a month! Things have been wonky here for the past couple of years. It seems to have gotten worse as of late. The thing I do not get is stuff coming into the US from UK gets here right on time.

I've had that problem lately as well Danny. I prefer to use nothing but Global Priority mail for shipping to countries that accept it. It can actually be cheaper to ship Global Priority than it is to ship Parcel Post. Either way, shipping Global Priority starts at around $10.00, but I think it's money well spent. But, some people don't wish to spend the money on shipping. I think it's worth the extra money to get a better service when shipping overseas.

Some interesting changes to the site Steve. Taken a look through some of your new items and am impressed, don't see many duds there.
Couple of things I want you to clarify, you mention above about magic to make money by. Are you implying that you want the site to sell to just pros? Going to limit your market if that's the case. You also mention on the site about wanting to stay away from knock offs, in other words wanting to stay an ethical seller. A laudable idea, but will it attract people to buy from you? Maybe some of the other guys can comment if that's on the top of their list with regards to prioritising dealers to buy from. I think if you were in the UK I'd buy from your site but knock offs or no knock offs, the shipping would kill me. Anyway back to my original point, I like the site and hope it does well for you. |

Any a good dealer will stay away from knock offs.
Any good magic club will point out if what you have is a knock off. We had a visiting Magician at our club that sold his show on a DVD. I bought his DVD then a member of the club tapped me on the shoulder and said get your money back and I will burn of a few from mine I told him what I thought. You just sat through his talk. You shacked hand. He slaved over his show and gave it to you for a mere thirty pounds. By which you can make a living from some ones else’s foundation and hard work then stab him in the back like that. He does not come to our club any more you cant trust some one like that can you. the point is if you going to take this business seriously, then you can’t be dealing with knock offs as a dealer or a performer. You must respect your roots. Mind you there is all ways eBay if that is what you want. C U at Blackpoll S. Mario |

Good questions, and Mario, I'm afraid you're quite incorrect in your assessment of selling knock-offs. Unfortunately, most dealers DO sell knock-offs. I did a recent review of about 20 of the most popular dealers with online stores and found 2 of them to be clean. The rest were selling some form of knock-offs or supporting the people who do sell them. Sad fact, but it's out there for everyone to see.
The intention is to sell to everyone, not just pro's, but even those who don't wish to make money from their magic DESERVE the right to have someone on their side. Someone who will not stock the items that most dealers pitch to people that end up in the "magic drawer" because it's not practical for anyone to use, whether you are a working pro or someone who just loves magic as a hobby. We weed through the tidal wave of crap out there and hand pick items that we know work and work well. Our customers actually spend less money on magic because they don't have to purchase items and find out they aren't practical. Buying magic on the internet and not seeing it demo'd is difficult. Our product range will expand to include excellent items for a good value for all types of people in magic. With over 10,000 items out there, it's tough to read a website and know whether or not the item is what is says it is, or if it will work with your style/situation. We hope to create a place where you can come to our site, and if you see it listed, you know it's a good product, and you can call and ask questions specific to your situation. I personally remember the feeling of buying several tricks, opening them and finding out you needed to be wearing a jacket. Newsflash, not many people wear jackets when it's 98 degrees and 70% humidity. Great, more tricks for winter, just what I always needed People support, knowingly and unknowingly, people who sell knock offs every day. From the consumer perspective, they are not at fault, since no one can expect anyone to have such a vast knowledge of magic to pick items that are not knock-offs. They trust their dealers for the most part. However, those dealers are supporting people who support knock offs, and at Magicpitch, we chose not to do that. We will not support people who copy items or ideas. Should we unknowingly stock an item that we find out to be a knock off, we will immediately remove it from our site. Period. Odd how other companies are taking years and stating policies about "Cleaning up their act", when in fact, it can be fixed in one hour. Remove the items from their website. Simple, isn't it? However, they make big campaigns to tell people how they are working hard to prevent knock offs, yet their sites are full of them. Actions speak louder than words and we have taken action, others have only talked about action. Go to the Magic Fakers page that someone posted and search some online dealers for the items. You may be shocked. Overseas shipping isn't too bad in most cases. In recent comparisons, even with the shipping, we were cheaper than a lot of UK discount sites, due to the dollar verses the £ . Anyone outside the USA can take advantage of it while the dollar is weak. If you're ordering a $10 item, it's cheaper to go UK, surely, but once you pass the $30 threshold, it starts working to your advantage to consider buying from the USA. I've had a lot of people try to buy things who hated paypal with a passion. We take Visa/MasterCard, checks, money orders, and PayPal. Hopefully, that gives everyone an option. We're pushing close to 40 countries that we sell to, so I'm sure we can help everyone in some respect and appreciate anyone even considering a purchase from us. It is our honor and privilege to do business with anyone who contacts us.

Just want to ad that postage to Europe from USA is not at all bloody. I have ordered from magicpitch (the old one though) and I got my products in a week and the postage was less than the same parcel would cost me within Sweden. The only problem is when the swedish customs charge way to much, but most dealers are happy to lower the price on the parcel or check in "gift" so that I don't have to pay a VAT of 25%.

Mario, we took proper ownership of the store on January 1st. Prior to that it was run as a favor to Gazzo. His deal with Penguin took his products with him, so the items he's the copyright holder on will be gone forever when they are sold out, but the agreement was we would sell the items until they were gone and he was fine with that.
Such as the Egg Bag DVD. etc. It's gone now, gone from Magicpitch forever, as will his books soon be. However, they can still be bought from the Distributor, so we might pick them up once our stock is gone if there is any interest.

I'm just glad to see that "The Royal Touch" by Jim tops your list of books Mario. In my humble opinion it is the finest *** book on busking with magic ever written. The first thirty pages of that book give you all the information you need to get out there and do it.
The material, tricks, routines, and essays, in the book while not written for amateurs is some of the finest stuff you can do in front of a lay audience on the street. I still think it is the master work on the subject regardless of what some of the critics in the magic press had to say about it. Of course, they are not buskers. It was a crappy translation, so what. I know I had no problem following it. I would love to see somebody scan the text and re-edit it in English to give it a proper place of honor. It is still the most under priced book I ever bought. Jim Cellini is a guy who deserves a capital M when he is described as a Magician. I don't know why all that fell out of my head but I'm glad it did. Jim is The Man. Best, Dan- "MT is one of the reasons we started this board! I agree in my mind the "The Royal Touch" by Jim Cellini is the Best buskers books on the Market. In fact it was the first book I ever bought on busking and magic come to thjink about it. After performing some years on the street some dude said to me "Have you ever heared of Cellini". Nope came my reply, if you ever get the chance buy his book. Some yrs later I went to my first convention and became the proud owner of his book. This is one book that I still refer to regulary.

I don't really understand why anyone would go over to the bird. Read my post in my column about the Scorpion and the Frog. The bird wants to be clean, but until they get rid of all the MM merchandise, they won't be.
They have enlisted the help of several really legit dealers to straighten them out, but if they don't show a profit -- the frog will get stung again.
