I "found" my own creativity when I decided to sell my illusions, and to quit my stage show. Unfortunately at that time (almost 5 years ago) I was a kind of forced to do so. Holland is a small country and there were too many illusionists touring (Hans Klok, Magic Unlimited) so I simply had no work. This was probably the worst time of my life! I had (literally) to sell my child’s dream...

At this point I had absolutely no clue where this all was leading to, and I even considered quitting magic in general. Of course we all know that quitting is impossible, magic is an addiction and thank God it is Smile

While sitting in front of the TV, I developed my handling of a colour change, which I called the "Meltchange" and I decided to offer my change/handling to the magic community as an instant download video, which was my first attempt to market an effect/sleight

Man, this got me some huge reactions and endorsements from amateurs and professionals around the world! That was the moment that I found the "button" inside my head that said, "Be creative". "Transferred" followed soon afterwards etc.

What I'm trying to say is that if you believe you can, you can! I NEVER thought I could create magic tricks! I've been a performer all my life, and I always followed my own perception on magic and presentation, but creating magic tricks?

Believe, find that button and be creative! I know you can Smile

Cheers,

Peter

Awesome story Peter Welcome to the Café sorry I didn't welcome you sooner, I to have been performing most of my life. I try top create as much as possible its always fun to see what I do next. What I don't really understand is how to put them on the market. I know the effects I try to sell are good because I get fantabulistical reactions I guess I need to learn marketing and stuff. Do you have any tips on how to put stuff out in the public domain?

Thanks in advance for any response,

Hi John,

There are several options:

The most important aspect of marketing is research. Is the effect new or refreshing, different enough, is it done before, etc. Also make sure your material is top notch: Strong, visual, good quality print work etc.

When you think you have something potentional on your hands, you could consider to send some samples of your effect to some selected dealers, to see if they're interested in marketing it for you.

Another option is to find a wholesale distibutor (e.g Murphy's Magic Supplies), present them your material, and find out if they're interested in distibuting your magic.

Let me know if you need to know anything else.

Good luck!
