I'll begin this by saying I like the way Reed thinks. While much of Reed's material may appear to be difficult to the average magician, with dedication and practice most of Mr. McClintock's routines can be mastered and presented by anyone who is willing to put in the time required. Reed's timing is excellent and his mis-direction is some of the best I have ever witnessed. The best part of anything that Reed comes up with is the fact that he performs this stuff in the real world and the audience's love it. That's good enough for me. As a side note, the routine presented on this disc is probably one of the easier McClintock ideas to learn. Having said all that, let's have a look-see at Reed's latest DVD offering...

Disc Description: Whether you are young or old, Reed's latest innovations in card work are a must have for your repertoire. Reed McClintock's audience acclaim can be yours! Since the McClintock Twist's first introduction, this sleight and the routines contained on this DVD have become a main part of Reed McClintock's Internationally acclaimed magic act. Not only will you learn the handing of the McClintock Twist, Reed shares new never revealed illusions and a handling so diabolical that if used correctly will make your magic more than memorable. This illusion can be mastered in a few minutes and perfected over a lifetime.

IllUSION ONE: JUST THE TWIST
This illusion is comprised of the basic twist and a way to do the classic twisting of the Aces. Of course using no gaffs or extra cards. It is also done vertically rather than the traditional waist level view.

IllUSION TWO: REED PICKS HIS POCKETS
Quite possibly the finest pick your own pocket routine ever devised. Reed picks his own pockets. A routine so clever and sneaky that even the keenest of minds have been totally baffled. The technology being applied is so straightforward and inspiring you have to see it to believe it. This is a full show piece, so much magic happens in a non confusing way that this routine is said to be worth the whole price of the DVD alone.

IllUSION THREE: SPOTS
One of the most artistic pieces of magic you have ever seen. Four white cards are shown with spots about the size of half dollars on them. One at a time the spots move to the outer corners of each card. The cards are rotated 180 degrees and now the spots from the corners join to make one big spot in the middle. If you've asked yourself what is a trick to get a great gig or a new booking, this DVD is for you. This illusion can be done with company logos, letters to form words, images to create other images and so much more. The possibilities are limited by only your imagination.

---------------------------------------

Back in 2000 Reed released a VHS tape of his now coveted McClintock Twist card routine. Inspired by the routines of folks like Larry Jennings, Guy Hollingworth and Lee Asher, Reed took the idea of cards reversing themselves and brought the whole thing up to eye level. This I believe to be the real strength of Reed's idea. Performing an effect like this at waist level is one thing, doing it so a whole room can see is quite another.

The original tape taught the twist, and that was pretty much it. Simple, but lacking any additional input or ideas that one might expect from such a project.

I'm happy to report that the new DVD is a whole different story. First, the production values are good. Reed actually took the time to re-shoot the project rather than merely transfer the original tape to disc, and that's a good thing for the rest of us. The McClintock twist is explained in full detail and even includes the Ammar style practice sessions - a nice touch. In addition, Reed elaborates on the presentation of this effect and includes a lot of additional ideas and pointers which were originally lacking.
However, the best part of this disc is the addition of two effects which take the twist to another level.

Reed Picks His Pockets: is an extremely clever routine which warrants learning the twist in the first place. This will absolutely slay laypeople and fool your magician friends as well. Performed then explained in full detail, Reed leaves nothing out. Worth the price of the disc. I like this routine a lot. Smile

Spots: Anyone working a trade show or company party will love the ideas contained in this single routine.
Using these ideas will no doubt inspire you to come up with a few of your own - I know I did. Good thinking Reed.

I'll end this review by saying this is probably one of the better DVDs that Reed has released to date. If you purchased the original tape, there is enough additional material here to warrant a second purchase. Those of you who are contemplating taking the plunge for the first time will be pleased with this offering. Strong magic, great ideas and taught by one of the best in the business. What more can I say? Highly recommended. Smile
