Hey guys, I just read that umbrella cocatoos can be train to unlock locks or undo bolts!!
So is this really true? I can just imagine the possibilities.... -BAN |

They can absolutaly be taught to unscrew a bolt (they will probably figure it out for themselves in the long run).. as for sticking a key in a lock and unlocking it.. that's unlikely. .but they can unlock the locks on their cages, so I'm sure they can unluck something like a clasp or whatnot.

Pretty much any parrot with any kind of intelligence will figure out how to this kind of thing. it didn't take my little mutt SPIKE long before he figured out how to open his travel cage. Now I keep it locked with a rock repelling clip that he can't open.

My macaws and cockatoos can unlock small padlocks and barrel bolts. I constantly replace these. But I've never tried incorporating this in my show. Hmmm, seems like a new idea.

Hey there,
Just a warning I’d like to pass on, I don’t know if you want one for a pet or not but if you are getting a cockatoo just for a trick in your show you may regret it. Constant cleaning of dust all over your home Screaming for attention day and night Food and vet bills for the next 60 years Expensive cage toys they chew to pieces that you must replace constantly Less likely to get shows as a result of them impeding travel to shows All this and no guarantee they will ever learn to pick locks as you are hoping for. Just something to think about Steve |

Thanks for the warning steven, and, no, I don't want them just for a show I wanted one as a pet and to use in a show. but err.. you changed my mind a little..... so much that, now, I don't realy want one.
P.S. are doves any easier? -BAN |

Steve is right. There is no guarantee that the parrot will be a showbird. Most are not meant to be. Just like "not all parrots can talk".
In my case, I have someone exclusively who cares for my parrots.

There are many types of too's, Listen to some of the advise here, don't go to a pet shop to get ANY type of bird! Search the area for an avian breeder, and talk to them. But please what ever you do, research the type of bird you want first. Do your homework first, then talk to an avain breeder.
Not imaginings, Not optical illusions, they're, MysterEz.
