Scott,
Hope you're feeling better! Unfortunately diabetes is at an all-time high in the USA but hopefully in the very near future even newer and better ways of treating it will be found. Take care!

I am back. My blood sugars are insane. Been to the E.D. 2 X so far. They are getting sick of seeing me. Anyways, thanks for all the well wishes. This is something I'm going to have to deal with.
The E.D. is a scary place when you don't have insurance. They don't want to touch you. To counter this, I whipped out my Visa and charged the stay. Going from not wanting to touch me to the extreme of wanting to admit me was rather sad to see of "professionals". As always I'll be behind the scenes. I think Jill's glad to be rid of me finally. Illnesses can cause a strain on house guests, Jim, thanks for the offer. Since I am still dehydrated my brain is being robbed of fluids and as such I have a killer migraine. You'll understand if I wait for a few days. |

Great to see that you had the resources to survive the U.S. medical system Scott! A pity the British Goverment is anxious to introduce the same system here.

I fear for Great Brittain if it happens. The main benefit in the us is the super amounts of drug research they can afford, but theres gotta be a better way! I hate feeling sick and broke.

The doctor took 7 office visits and 4 sets of blood tests to "get the dosage right". My share of each doctor visit co-pay is $35.00!!! I ended up with over $300.00 just in co-pays and over $200.00 in my co-pays on the blood tests!!!! The doctor then bills the insurance company $195.00+ for each 5 minute visit!!! (Extrapolating that $195.00/5 minute office time, conservatively speaking, the doctor is effectively billing out over $1500.00/hour!! I finally quit going. I was up to over $500.00 in co-pays(and counting)..... This game would have played out 1-2 more times minimum (or more) if I hadn't called a halt to the practice. This doctor is NOT an isolated case. He is the rule and not the exception. And then we wonder why our medical premiums are so high and the cost of health care is at such a crisis level here in the USA. When a job benefit like health care becomes more important than the job salary, we've got a problem. Just, IMHO. Mike

Whats even better is the lack of respect or professional courtesy. I also love the idea of malpractise suits, sure accidents happen, but stitching up surgical tools inside someone is nutz!

I felt very negatively toward the allopathic medical world as well until I had to have emergency surgery two years ago (8" of colon removed), a follow-up surgery (cut and restored colon) plus a heart procedure all in 6 months time. My experience was the opposite of the sentiment being expressed here. A litigious culture seems more the culprit than the outstanding professional medical care I experienced.

I work in the health care industry. I would agree in a way with some of what is being said. I am very familiar with Doctor visits and billing procedures. Most of the time I don't think they are trying to nickle and dime you. They are trying to help you. Doctors are not any happier with the current system than us. You think they like paying there insurance? Sadly Doctors are starting to leave the field, because of lawsuites, insurance costs etc. Is it a problem? YES. For the most part I don't think it is the Doctors or Hospitals fault.

Geez, Scott! Your blood sugars, Anabelle's scooter crash, my appendix going gonky on me... what IS this, pick on mentalists month?!
Glad to see you are up and around again! I just got home yesterday from becoming the new, abridged version (without the appendix!)... Lee Darrow, C.H.
